Power Factor ExplainedOur world-class Power Factor Correction Systems will raise your business efficiency, lower your carbon footprint and reduce your risk of equipment failure. This saves your business time, energy and money.

What is Power Factor?Inefficient electrical systems tend to use a large quantity of ‘reactive’ power (kVAr), which represents the power

lost in the operation of inductive equipment such as transformers and electric motors. This invariably increases the total power load represented by your kVA –and reduces your overall energy efficiency, or ‘Power Factor’.

Power Factor is the ratio between your kVA, or total power load, and your kW, or the actual power working for your business. Power factor is measured on a scale between zero and one, with 1.0 representing optimal energy efficiency.

Why install Power Factor Correction (PFC)?Installing custom-built Capacitor Banks and Controllers minimizes wasted energy, improves plant efficiency and ultimately saves you money.

It also helps rectify any overloading issues you may have and gives you the opportunity to expand your plant without upgrading transformer or supply equipment.

It is not uncommon for the installation costs of a properly designed system to be recovered 6-30 months after installation.

SVG100 / 200 kVAr

Static reactive power generators

DescriptionSVG static reactive power generators are the most accurate reactive power compensation solution, for both unbalanced three-phase systems and facilities with inductive and capacitive reactive power. It can be used in three-phase industrial, commercial or service installations and is not affected by the harmonics of the installation. A system with greater safety and very little maintenance. In this series, the racks are mounted in the standard cabinets available on the market and are designed for ease of installation.

The following features and functions are implemented:

· Reactive power compensation (inductive/capacitive) of 100 to 200 kVAr per cabinet · Compact rack-type module for ease of installation in standard cabinets. · Voltage and frequency multi-range (50/60 Hz) · Immunity to harmonic currents. · Cos ф range of 0.7 inductive…1…0.7 capacitive. · Online operation monitoring · Protection module includedIf higher power factor correction capacities are required, up to 100 units can be connected in parallel*.

ApplicationThe perfect solution for individual loads or facilities with a large number of single-phase or three-phase loads, both inductive and capacitive. RE / RBE

DescriptionCIRCUTOR has standardised the reactors of the RE / RBE series for their use in static capacitor banks. The best operation of the unit requires the reactors to be connected within the triangle made p of the capacitor-reactor group. At the same power rating, the RE / RBE reactors have a nominal current value that is 1.73 times lower and an inductance value that is 3 times higher than that in an R / RB reactor.

There is a standard range of 400 V rejection reactors with p = 7%, with a resonance frequency of 189 Hz for 50 Hz networks (or 227 Hz on demand for 60 Hz networks). In addition, reactors can be manufactured on demand for static capacitor banks adapted to any value of the power rating, p%, voltage and frequency.

RE-type low-power reactors are built with low-loss plates and are coiled with copper wire. The connection is made using suitable terminals. In the case of higher power ratings, RBE reactors are used, with a magnetic plate nucleus and multiple air gaps, which offer excellent features and a low loss ratio. The coils are made with an aluminium band (or copper band, on demand). The input and output connections run through a busbar. Both RE and RBE type reactors are impregnated with a varnish in a vacuum to increase insulation and reduce noise levels.

ApplicationsThe rejection reactors of the RE / RBE series have been specifically designed for use in static capacitor banks in installations with a high harmonic content. The reactors must be connected in series with each capacitor for adequate protection of the capacitors and the static operations module, and to avoid resonance effects in the installation.

EMB-2PH

DescriptionEMB-2PH static switching modules series are the building blocks for the construction of static capacitor banks for Power Factor Correction.

These capacitor banks use thyristors instead of the classic contactors for the connection of each capacitor stage and they are ideal in installations with fast and large load fluctuations (load changes from tents of seconds up to 8 or 10 seconds).

ApplicationEMB-2PH static switching modules have been designed to connect and disconnect capacitors in some milliseconds. They can be used to build capacitors with some stages, or for the individual compensation of a load that must be compensated instantly and which is not able to be disconnected such as welding machines, cranes, lifts, etc.

High Voltage CapacitorsCIRCUTOR has its own technology for the design and manufacture of medium voltage capacitors, whether single phase or three-phase.

CHV-M

Composition of the capacitorsThe CHV High Voltage capacitors are comprised of several basic capacity elements.

These basic units are connected in series and parallel groups with the objective of achieving the required power and voltage.

Capacitor protection for internal fusesOperational advantages

· Exclusive disconnection from any damaged element · Minimal generation of gases in the interior of the capacitor, therefore there is negligible internal excess pressure

· Continuity of service. The elimination of the damaged unit enables the continuation of the connected equipment

· Possibility of planning the maintenance of the bank · Easier maintenance

Design advantages

· Greater capacitor power · Use of fewer capacitors · Reduction of the frame or cabinet sizes · More economical cost from the bank.

To limit transitory voltage phenomenons and high currents associated with the connection of capacitor banks, it is essential to use RMV shock reactors to ensure that the peak values are below that indicated in the Standard IEC 60871-1 (less than 100 times the nominal current), and therefore maintain the integrity of the capacitors, as well as of the installation regarding voltage surges.

The value of the inductance is variable depending on the conditions of the installation, basically depending on the following parameters:

· Short-circuit power of the installation · The existence of more capacitor banks · Breaking capacity of the automatic switches. The peak residual connection current, once the reactance is installed, must also be lower than the shutdown power of the equipment.
