The power of prayer for example has proved to be atranscendental experience. Meditation takes oneinto communion with the infinite intelligence, love, wisdom and guidance of our Almighty Creator.

In every area of scientific research man is probing

deeper into the inner and invisible reality and isdiscovering the very laws which govern andmotivate the entire universe. Increasingly, in thefuture we shall all be involved in this deeperpartnership with the Lord of creation and allow Hisinfinite power to flow into all our activities. Thenindeed shall we have peace on Earth and unified, creative processes designed to secure the wellbeingof the entire world family.

It may well be that aptitude tests for spiritual healing

will be part of the medical school entranceexaminations! If so, they might be modelled after

the work of New York University's Doris Krieger.Dr. Krieger has just completed her fourth effectiverepeat of her experiments which demonstrate that

'Laying On of Hands' is able significantly to raisehaemoglobin values in patients' blood. In theselatest trials, she monitored 32 registered nursestrained in therapeutic touch, who treated 64patients in various New York hospitals.

Co-operation for this research came from all levels ofpatients, attending doctors, nursing directors, andeach institution's Board of Research Review. Sincehaemoglobin is one of the most well understood ofall human proteins, Doctor Krieger feels that her

experiments may have shed light on an importantmethod for confirming reproducibility in para-psychological research.

The 'Laying on of Hands' has been used in spiritualhealing for thousands of years. It is certainly one of

the ancient sacraments in the Christian Church. Itrepresents the deep instincts of mankind to comeinto close fellowship with the Lord and with eachother, and has produced astonishing results ofhealing for all kinds of spiritual, mental and physical

    disorders.

Our work at the Sanctuary has been involved inresearch into these wonderful ways ofconsciousness, and throughout that period it has

been an amazing experience. To witness even onelife transformed by prayer, or one healing of a so-called incurable disease, quickens the mind tocontemplate the infinite potentials inherent incommunion with the Lord of Creation.

Down the years we have published in our free'Crusader' magazine thousands of testimoniesfrom people who personally experiencedtransformations beyond human skill to achieve.

So we go forward rejoicing and giving thanks and areespecially conscious of your fellowship with us inthe Father's work. There is indeed a world to bewon and new dimensions of experience representthe highway along which all humanity will, inevitably, march to the great freedoms of the

    future.

Smile to yourself . . . until you notice that constantseriousness, or even severity, has vanished. Smileto yourself. . . until you have warmed your ownheart with the sunshine of your cheery countenance.

Then . . . go out and radiate your smile. That smile .. . has good work to do! You are a friendly beaconnow and your smile is your gift of friendship.

The love in your soul will give a special charm to

your smile, which will render it productive of muchgood. Smile ... on the lonely faces; smile ... on thetimid faces; smile ... on the sorrowful faces; smile ...on the sickly faces; smile ... on the fresh youngfaces; smile . . . on the wrinkled old faces; smile . . . on

the familiar faces. Let all enjoy the beauty andinspiring cheer of your smiling face.

Count if you will the number of smiles yoursmile has drawn from others in one day. Thenumber will represent how many times you havepromoted contentment, joy, satisfaction, encouragement, or confidence, in the hearts ofothers. These good dispositions always give birth tounselfish acts and noble deeds. Your smile . . . canbring new life and hope and courage into the heartsof the weary, the over-burdened, the discouraged,

the tempted, the despairing. Your smile . . . canhelp to develop vocations. Your smile . . . canbring a sinner back to God.

Smile too, at God. Smile at God in loving

    LonelinessMac of the Sanctuary

Nobody stands at the garden gateTo watch for me when the hour grows late.

Theres not a soul in the world to shareMy daily lot, be it fowl or fair.

    Nobody hastens to welcome me

Opning the door with cry of glee. There isnt a sound save the east winds moan

Through wintery treesfor Im quite alone.

    Nobody kindles the cheerful glow

Of friendly fire, or wants to knowWhether Ive triumphed and what Ive doneTwixt the dawn of day and the set of sun.

Slowly I enter and empty room,Nobody calls through the gathering gloom.

Whatever my mood, be it ill or well,Tis locked in my heart, for theres none to tell.

But someone loves you unendingly,Down all the years to eternity.

Nobody wants me just cant be true.

HE cared so much that He died for you!

We offer you our friendship and support when timesare difficult, and we revel in your good news. I trustthat when you pray you really do believe in a divinesolution? It is through a complete trust in God thatall things are possible. Many people are of the belief

that certain diseases and illnesses will run theircourse over a number of days or weeks, yet we donot aspire to that line of thinking! If you accept thatpremise then that is how long you will take to feelwell again! Divine healing is about miraculous andspontaneous healings right now! Open those lines ofcommunication and let us intercede on your behalf.

Try not to become bogged down with worry andfear because you will harm yourself and others withthis negative line of thought. Tune into your naturallyGod centred soul, and let the Father take chargeright now. We often suffer in silence and you no

our minds, bodies and souls! There is no limit toGods potential. The Father is all-powerful andeverywhere present. He awaits your invitation today. He will enter into your life without delay.

Have you asked God for His help lately? ThePerfect Solution is there for the asking. Believeand receive in abundance. You are the livingtestimony to God's love manifesting as YOU. It isthe Fathers good pleasure to be able to give useverything that we need to sustain us physically, mentally and spiritually. Jesus Christ tells us thatwe can not live by bread alone. It is also the newbread that is shared through the covenant betweenGod and His creation. We come home to the greatFather, to share this spiritual feast.

At the last supper, Christ shared the bread of lifeand the fruit of the vine. They are the body and theblood as remembered through the HolyCommunion. The essence of celebrating the

Eucharist is that we are celebrating Christ in Hisphysical and spiritual form. Christ crucified for us!

Arising in glory through His conquest of death; thecelebration of eternal life. Of course we need ourphysical bodies to carry us through this part of ourexperience. The body is the vehicle of the soul. We

also need the Christ-way to guide us along thiswonderful road of life, and it is easy to traveltogether.

Within hours of making intercessions to God, my

prayers and those of my loved ones became myspiritual and physical triumph over pain andimmobility, just as Jesus had triumphed over deaththrough His prayers. Gods love for us is indeedmighty!

I have recently read a fascinating book called, TheTime Paradox which discusses how our timeperspective affects our quality of life. After readingthis book, I started to think about how our

relationship to time, affects not only ourpsychological life, but also our spiritual journey.

As you review your own, do you see it as acontinuous journey of growth and development? Isyour experience of life, an ongoing spiritual

challenge and exploration or is it lived in a restrictedsurvival mode? Are you holding onto your past, imprisoned by your memories? Are you frightened inyour experience of the present, intimidated, apprehensive and powerless? Or perhaps you livein the moment with no consideration for thesignificance of your being in the world. Maybe you

are so focused on your future goals that you cannotembrace the present, the gift that life presents toyou right now.

How are you using the talents and gifts given to youfor your lifes journey? Are they buried? Misused? Are they multiplying? Have you used or neglectedthe talents, perceiving your assets as liabilities andyour abilities as disabilities? Jesus articulated this

message in the parable of the talents, whichconcludes:

For to him who has, it shall be given, and itshall increase to him, but he who has not, eventhat which he has shall be taken away fromhim. Matt. XXV, 29

Are you the kind of person who spends long periodsof time dwelling on the past? Are you steeped innostalgia, longing for the glory of things past or the

simplicity of your former life? Do you pine for thestatus of previous employment or are you stillharbouring resentments experienced in priorrelationships? Do you still identify with yourachievements of yesteryear or bemoan the miseries

years or long for the comforts of your childhoodhome? Do you tend to ruminate about injustices youendured compared with.compared withwhomsoever you choose to compare yourself? You

are incomparable. Your journey is unique anddesigned for your greatest spiritual growth. Do notdevalue yourself or anyone else, by weighing yourindividuality against another individual. Yourjourney, your mission, your life is meticulously and

specifically designed for your special spiritualexplorations, challenges and successes.

I was talking to a young man recently, who shared atragic story. He was driving a car in which his twobest friends died. Unable to resolve his guilt andshame related to the accident, he continued to judgehimself years afterward, reliving the trauma dailyand experiencing sleep difficulties nightly. When itwas suggested that he try to forgive himself for theaccident, he said that it would be impossible for him

to do this. However, when encouraged to let theHoly Spirit of forgiveness flow through him, heconsented and a Divine Healing occurred. He cannow live in the present and welcome the future lifehe had been so fearful of experiencing. I had an

encounter with another man who had been involvedin a motorcycle accident ten years prior to our

meeting. He had lost a leg during the accident andwas in excruciating pain when we met. Recountingthe circumstances of the accident in prayerful

conversation together, he unlocked the memory ofthe horrific death of his fiance, a passenger on themotorcycle she had been decapitated. By allowingforgiveness and emotional release, through DivineHealing he was freed from the prison of this tragicevent from his past. His physical and mental pains

were healed. He was able to start life again, living inthe present.

Our mindset establishes the system through whichwe perceive our reality. Through how we recollect

our past, we frame our experience of the presentand establish the perceptual system through whichwe experience our future. A negative mindsetcreates a negative perspective on reality. A positivemindset reveals a positive reality. What is the

context with which you are re-viewing your past andprojecting your future?

Those who maintain a negative perspective abouttheir past, experience their present with sadnessand depression and approach their future withapprehension and foreboding. They do not respond

well to stress, weighed down as they are by theirpast memories. Through a forgiving rather than awithholding attitude, we can enter into co-operationwith the Spirit within and let go of the negativity,

which may be limiting us from the experience of joide vivre, the joy of life. Those who adopt a positiveperspective relative to their past tend to be happierand suffer less from depression and anxiety. Theycan manage stress better and they experience

greater social support. By choosing an attitude ofgratitude and by releasing themselves from theburdens of resentment, they are lighted inthemselves and a joy to be around. I know, as mywife Merrie is such a person.

Recently I read the little booklet How God CalledMe by Brother Mandus (available from our bookstore priced 1+ p. & p.) In the booklet he statesthat by devoting his lifes work to prayer and helpingothers his needs were always met by the Lord. This

reminded me of a story I read sometime ago: Iwould like to share it with you now.

This story takes place in Texas where BrotherMandus once visited and was appointed Mayor ofthe beautiful city of La Villita which is located on the

banks of the San Antonio River, in the County OfBexar.

In the town of Waller in Texas "God's MercyStore," a unique general store, was opened in

1918. Goods were marked at cost, and customerspaid cost plus whatever profit percentage they felt

was appropriate. Owner Mr A. D. Purvis an ex-farmer claimed that the store was established "bythe spirit of Christ which is love, mercy, and selfdenial." The store always showed a tidy profit and

was still operating in the 1930s.

To trace the beginnings of this unique enterpriseone must go back to the time when Purvis was apoor Texas farmer who was shunned by his God-

fearing neighbours as a heathen, though never anactual atheist. At that time Mr. Purvis never attendedchurch nor professed to believe in God, tiny doubtsabout his Creator had started to creep into his mindbecause many religious people he knew, afterattending revival meetings would announce thatthey had been born again, and then continue to livethe same old way as they had always done. YetPurvis, desperately eager to believe, strove with allhis might against the doubts he had. Because of hisextreme poverty and the necessity of working hard

to make a bare living, he had very little leisure timeyet devoted every moment he could spare toreading the Bible and tried to grasp its meaning. Itwas a painfully hard task for, having had littleschooling, he was all but illiterate. One Sunday

evening he came across the following quotationfrom St Mathew:

  • 8/14/2019 'Power Lines' January - April 2010

    28/35

    28

And every one that hath forsaken houses, orbrethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife,or children, or lands for my names sake, shallreceive a hundredfold and shall inherit

    everlasting life.

He read it over and over again, and all next daywhilst working in his tiny cotton field he kept thinkingabout it. If the Bible is true, he reasoned, I should

live according to its teachings because there is ahereafter. If the Bible is not true, then there is nohereafter and only my life here on earth matters.Would I gain or lose by accepting the Bible? Finally,Purvis was determined to spend the rest of his lifefollowing the dictates of his well-thumbed Bible. Butthis proved less simple than it appeared at first.Where did one begin serving the Lord and how?

When farmer Purvis told his neighbours that hewanted to serve the Lord and asked them for

advice, they smiled incredulously. Disappointed intheir reaction he went home sad. Then one day amiracle happened; he had a vision in which he wasordered to sell his tiny farm and open a store inwhich goods would be sold without profit. The next

day Purvis started searching for a buyer of his farmand equipment and succeeded in disposing of them.

With the money from the sale he built and stocked asmall general store in the little town of Waller. Thelegend he placed above the door read:

Jesus Christ the Same, Yesterday and Todayand Forever.- Hebrews Xlll, 8.

Inside was a sign that announced: All goods in thisstore are sold at cost, nothing is added for profit.

The store is kept by free-will offerings. Any thing youmay add to your purchase will be received withmany thanks. At first the people of Waller and thesurrounding countryside came to the new store onlyout of curiosity. The idea of associating religion withbusiness made them sceptical. But the great faith ofthe man who kept the store as his way of servingthe Lord, and the fact that the merchandise thereactually was being sold at cost soon won them over. There were few who did not leave a free-will offeringbefore departing. After a year or so, trade became

so brisk that Mr. Purvis had to employ extra help, astime passed more room was needed until the storecovered a floor area of 7,500 sq ft; also ahairdressing saloon and petrol station were lateradded.

Many years later Brother Mandus now having losteverything was kneeling before the Altar in a littlechurch deep in prayer, when a deep insistent innervoice said: Now, my son, your day has come. I

want you to open a Sanctuary of Divine Healingby Prayer. Now you possess nothing of theworld, and you must have perfect trust in Me,asking no man for material help. But giving yourwhole life in a service of unconditional love,

completely dependent upon Me for everything.

As with farmer Purvis and his store; from BrotherMandus tiny seed of love and faith has grown agreat Ministry. In all of this only the Lord has donethe work. We have but followed where He directed, for we of ourselves are nothing.

poor little body was being moved, a worn andcrumpled red purse was found which seemed tohave been rummaged from some trash dump. Insidewas found 57 cents and a note, scribbled in childish

    handwriting, which read:

'This is to help build the little church bigger somore children can go to Sunday School.'

For two years she had saved for this offering of love. When the pastor tearfully read that note, he knewinstantly what he would do. Carrying this note andthe cracked, red pocketbook to the pulpit, he told thestory of her unselfish love and devotion. Hechallenged his deacons to get busy and raiseenough money for the larger building.

A newspaper learned of the story and published it. Itwas read by a wealthy realtor who offered them aparcel of land worth many thousands. When told

that the church could not pay so much, he offered tosell it to the little church for 57 cents. Churchmembers made large donations. Cheques camefrom far and wide. Within five years the little girl'sgift had increased to $250,000 -- a huge sum for

that time (near the turn of the century). Her unselfishlove had paid large dividends.
