Think On These ThingsBy Reverend Juanita G. Wingo
Faith in the StruggleBut the God of all grace…after that ye have suffered a while, make you
perfect, stabish, strengthen, settle you.I Peter 5:10
Have faith in the struggle.
Struggles can strengthen you. They are uncomfortable and humiliating, but if you continue facing them and moving through them, you will eventually get something out of them.
Stay in the struggle until the struggle does its work: refining, strengthening, and smoothing your rough edges.
Struggles can teach you patience. You need patience with your progress. There are lessons along the way. The more you learn, the better you can live your life. Struggles can teach you self-awareness. Once you are aware of your weaknesses, you can strengthen them. Once you are aware of your deficiencies, you can perfect them. Once you are aware of what breaks you down, you can build yourself up.
Struggles can reap confidence. The more struggles you face, the more you realize you can get through them and the more you understand that you can benefit by them. They can bring forth determination to do better, be stronger, and keep improving.
The struggle has its work. Don’t walk away before it is finished.
Have faith that the struggle will work on your behalf. Have faith that the struggle will produce the desired results. Have faith that in due time the struggle will result in victory.

Ann W. Kinard “To God Be The Glory”
THE CHURCH TEATRADING LIVES
For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
Isa 60:2
Just this past month, New Psalmist Baptist Church hosted a Maryland human trafficking awareness event. The meeting served as a wake up call to a crime against humanity – the illegal trade of people for exploitation or commercial gain. I (like many others) mistakenly considered this atrocity as a Third World dilemma. To the contrary, its affects are pervasive and ongoing right here in the State of Maryland! People can be trafficked in the same community they grew up in – often lured by a traveling job, record contract, modeling or any monetary promise that seems too good to be true. Our skyrocketing drug epidemic may coincide as a consequence of this industry. Here are a few red flags of human prey victims. They often have no identification, no mention or contact with friends. Their communication and movement is always monitored. They work long hours with no breaks and few days off. They live in inhumane conditions and also may show signs of physical abuse or mistreatment. As a parent be nosy. There is no such thing as privacy when it comes to safety. Question where your child’s expensive cell phone, new clothes, or money actually comes from. Ask the hard questions and scrutinize each answer. Often as parents we’re just happy we didn’t have to buy “it”. Those days are long gone. This is a billion dollar industry that preys on the vulnerabilities of the strong and the weak. Young children especially then are not exempt from this modern day travesty. So, use the buddy system whenever your child
attends a social function. Having self-esteem is crucial, as many young people are targeted in local malls and befriended by individuals who will win their time and affection with gifts and attention. Essentially, a courting phase is used to gain the confidence of unsuspecting and vulnerable young people. These crimes used to be focused against women but now young men are increasingly victimized as well.Anyone who suspects any type of human trafficking is encouraged to call 1-888-373-7888 anonymously to report it. We as Christians know that darkness cannot survive in light. Therefore, we must shine the spotlight of hope on an industry which thrives in darkness and ignorance … giving a voice to silent victims of modern day slavery.
