WhenyouopenPowerPoint,anewpresentationiscreatedandablankslideappearsinthePowerPointwindow.Theslidehasplaceholdersforyoutoaddatitleandsubtitle.
ThetabbedRibbonmenusystemishowyouaccessthevariousPowerPointcommands.IfyouhaveusedpreviousversionsofPowerPoint,theRibbonsystemreplacesthetraditionalmenus.AbovetheRibbonintheupper-leftcorneristheMicrosoftOfficeButton.Fromhere,youcanaccessimportantoptionssuchasNew,Save,SaveAs,andPrint.BydefaulttheQuickAccessToolb
arispinnednexttotheMicrosoftOfficeButton,andincludescommandssuchasUndoandRedo.
Ontheleftsideofthewindow,youwillseeataskpanewithslidesandoutlinetabs,whichappearsbydefault.Onthebottom,rightareaofthescreenyouwillfindViewcommands(Normal,SlideSorter,andSlideShow),andthezoomtool.

SelecttheslidewhereyouwishtoinserttheSmartArtgraphic.SelecttheInserttab.
SelecttheSmartArtcommandintheIllustrationsgroup.Adialogboxappears.SelectacategoryontheleftofthedialogboxandreviewtheSmartArtgraphicsthatappearinthecenter.Clickagraphictoselectit.Alargerversionofthegraphic,alongwithtextdetails,willappearontherightsideofthedialogbox.ClickOK.Thegraphicwillappearontheslide,andtwonewSmartArtToolstabs--DesignandFormat--willappearon
theRibbon.YoucanalsoinsertaSmartArtgraphicbyclickingtheInsertSmartArtcommandintheplaceholder,iftheslidelayoutincludesacontentplaceholder.

Enterthetextyouwishtoappearintheselectedshape.Whenyoubegintyping,thesolidlinethatsurroundstheshapewillbecomeadottedline,whichindicatesthetextboxisactive.oThetextwillautomaticallyreplacetheplaceholdertext.oThetextautomaticallyresizestofittheshape.
