WHO IS MALALA?

Malala is a student and education activist from Pakistan.She fights for women´s rights and education.

Malala was born on July 12,1997 in Mingora, Pakistan.

Her town was an important tourist place and it was known for its summer festivals.However, the area began to change as the Taliban tried to take control.

In 2009, Malala wrote a blog under a pseudonym for the BBC, telling about her life under Taliban rule.Her pseudonym was Gul Makay and it means grief-stricken.

WHAT IS TALIBAN?The Taliban is a Sunni Muslim movement which controlled Afghanistan from 1996 until 2001.The Taliban banned girls from attending school.

She lives with her father, her mother and her two younger brothers in England.

Her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, ran a number of schools in the region.He is an education activist as well.

RECENT INCIDENTOn October 2012 ,Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head and neck by Taliban gunmen while returning home on a school bus.

She was taken to Queen Elizabeth Medical Center in Birminghan,The United Kingdom.There, she could recover.But, her fight against the Taliban for women´s education didn´t end.

nominated for the International Children´s Peace Prize.
