Let’s review: A UPS is…
An uninterruptible power system (UPS) is defined as a backup power system used to ensure uninterrupted power
for various electronic devices.
Uninterrupted power may be achieved in the following ways:
• Provides backup power when utility power fails
• Either long enough for critical equipment to shut down sequentially, ensuring no data is lost, or
• Long enough to operate required loads before a generator comes online
• Provides clean and regulated power to electronic devices

The impact of power outages
What challenges do YOU see with UPSs?

They…
• Waste valuable space: Battery backup solutions should not take up valuable space that is needed for server and storage capacity.
• Drive up energy costs & generate heat: Inefficient UPS solutions waste as much as 25%+ of the electricity flowing through them. Not only does this cost you in energy consumption, but also it generates heat.
• Require too much maintenance: Some battery backup solutions require frequent battery replacements or are just poor quality and unreliable.
• Are hard to monitor and manage: The monitoring and management software is expensive and also difficult to install, use and get valuable information from.
• Don’t scale to support growth: Many battery backup solutions are not designed to scale to support your growing requirement. This leads to wasted money from buying more than what is needed or having to throw out and replace.
Legacy backup power solutions are not efficient

Intelligent Power Software Suite simplifies power management, even in a virtual environment
• Eaton’s monitoring and management software, Intelligent Power Manager, can be integrated into vCenter’s dashboard through a plug-in for advanced management capabilities. Power events are logged in the Events tab – they can trigger VMotion™,
which moves applications to servers unaffected by power problems.
• Eaton’s protection software, Intelligent Power Protector, enables automatic, graceful shutdown of servers and virtual machines.
