Mediterranean fruit fly (Medfly)Ceratitis capitata

• The Mediterranean fruit fly(Medfly) is one of the mostdestructive pest world wide

• It has a broad host rangeand is fairly adapted tocooler regions

• Originated in sub-Saharanregion of Africa. Arrived inHawaii in 1910, continental US in 1929, there have been repeatedinfestations since that time.

• Methyl eugenol is attractive Oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel)

• Cue-lure are highly attractive to melon fly, B. cucurbitae (Coquillett)

• Propylene glycol is used in traps as a killing agent, it has been shown to increase captures and improve preservation of captured flies
