Here are some questions for you

and your classmates to think about and discuss.

Page 15: PowerPoint prepared by Dr. Willis, OCES Counselor CARING.

Do you think people are born with compassion

(caring/kindness), or is it something people learn?

How can parents teach their children compassion?

What examples of compassion have you seen?

Page 16: PowerPoint prepared by Dr. Willis, OCES Counselor CARING.

Do you think most people in the world are compassionate? Why or

why not?

Is our world today more or less compassionate than in the past?

What famous people living today do you consider to be

compassionate?

What have they done to help others?

Page 17: PowerPoint prepared by Dr. Willis, OCES Counselor CARING.

The opposite of compassion is cruelty.

Have you ever been cruel to someone else?

Describe what happened.

How did it make you feel?

Summing up Caring•Something I learned about caring is . . .

•Did you reach the “caring” goals you set for yourself? Give examples of how you are moving toward them or have accomplished them.

•One area I still need to work on to improve the way I show compassion or caring is . . .

Just For FunCreate a “kindness” bulletin board. Ask each student to contribute artwork, a poem, or a story. Display these on your bulletin board for everyone to share. Take time to have each student discuss his or her contribution.

Teachers, please email Dr. Willis if you choose to create a bulletin board.

Just For FunMake original greeting cards for people in hospitals, nursing homes, or our U.S. soldiers. As a special treat, you might want to include original poems or short stories to give with the greeting cards.

If you choose to make the greeting cards, please send all unsealed cards to Dr. Willis by Friday, February 28th.
