LVSC: Top 10% in Carbon Disclosure

For the first time, Las Vegas Sands is included in the

Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Global 500 Climate

Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI). The index recognizes

companies listed on the FTSE Global Equity Index Series

that are in the top ten percent in disclosing climate

change information. CDP CEO Paul Simpson comments,

“Companies … included in the CDLI have demonstrated

leading practices for the measurement of greenhouse

gas emissions and energy use and transparency of their

climate change strategy.“ Well done, Sands ECO360o.

The meeting facilities at Las Vegas Sands’

Singapore and Las Vegas properties are now

among only ten certified green meeting

entities in the world.

The Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC)

worked with APEX, the Convention Industry

Council’s Accepted Practices Exchange, and

ASTM, an ANSI certified international

standard development organization, to create

the green meetings standard. Marina Bay

Sands was the first outside of the United

States to certify at level one and Las Vegas

was the first in the world to achieve level two.

Tamara Kennedy, Executive Director of the

GMIC, stated “Responsible environmental and

social practices in the meeting industry is a

global concern. We are delighted to see

Marina Bay Sands lead the way in Singapore.”

Shortly thereafter, Michael Luehrs, President

of the GMIC, praised the team in Las Vegas:

“The spirit, persistence and creativity that led

to this achievement is only the latest of

actions that place them among the nation’s

top sustainability performers in the events

industry. We salute the entire team at The

Venetian, The Palazzo and Sands Expo and

thank them for being an exemplary role

model for commitment to service and

This is an amazing accomplishment for the

dedicated considerable time developing the

idea of green meetings into the industry-

leading program that exists today.

Hundreds of Low-flow Fixtures Sold

To support the Sands ECO360o program and raise awareness

about water conservation, the Macao Human Resources Team set

up a water roadshow for Team Members. China Environment

Technology (HK) Ltd. provided water saving tips and the

opportunity to purchase low-flow water fixtures at special

discounted prices.

Team Members scooped up 364 showerheads and 429 aerators,

which will help them save both water and money at home.

The Venetian Macao enjoyed its own celebrity spotlight at the

International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards this year. The property

was presented with an award for all of the efforts undertaken to create a

“Green IIFA”. The IIFA recognized the Sands ECO360o global sustainability

program and the green meeting concierge.

Sabbas Joseph, Director of the IIFA, made this statement: "Since 2007,

IIFA has been committed to the ‘green' cause. From an energy-efficient

awards event to the world's first ever green carpet, we continue to

create awareness and voice environmental concerns. …We strongly

support The Venetian Macao's contribution towards environmental

preservation and regeneration.” Congratulations for the spectacular

green performance!

Stewarding to Reduce Food Waste

Chief Steward Deva explains to his team how separating

food waste from general waste helps the environment.

Mandy Martin (Global Sustainability Manager, LVSC): Why

did you decide to do this training?

Devasagayam Adaikkalsamy (Chief Steward, MBS): We did

the training to create sustainability awareness among our

Team Members and to differentiate between food waste

and general waste. Learning about the importance of

sustainability is helpful so that they understand why we are

asking them to do this important project.

MM: Why is separating food waste important?

DA: Separating food waste is important because it can be

recycled, whereas general waste cannot. We will reduce

food going to incineration which helps the environment.

External Communication >>>

At the delight of guests, local sustainability professionals, media, and Team

Members, the picturesque Palazzo Waterfall Atrium and Gardens’ fall display

was unveiled in September. The exhibit showcases materials found on the

property to reflect the activities of the Sands ECO360o program.

Check out the ‘Recycled Forest,’ which is made of construction debris, 70

percent recycled steel, bottles, corks, and soap, and the 1934 Hudson car

centerpiece crafted out of succulents, lichen, moss, grapevine and some

5,000 drought-resistant plants.

This isn’t the only green-feat for the horticulture team this quarter. The

Venetian | Palazzo was also awarded the top two Professional Grounds

Management Society (PGMS) Green Star Awards. PGMS, a professional

society with the purpose of educating and advancing institutional grounds

managers, is a well-respected and recognized organization in the industry.

Trash-to-Treasure Display Wows Crowds

A fall display housed at The Palazzo converts soap, corks, and

even a beat-up old car into a spectacular horticultural show.

Green: A Growing Interest in Schools

Sands Expo helped establish an urban gardening program

called “Plant It for the Planet” in September. Carolyn

Goodman, the Mayor of the City of Las Vegas, proclaimed

September 6th as “Plant it for the Planet Day” and asked,

“all citizens to recognize Sands Expo, Green our Planet

and Monaco Middle School for planting ten garden boxes

for growing fruits and vegetables.”

During the yearlong venture, students will learn the value

of good nutrition, self-reliance and sustainability.

revolution by setting up shop in Asia in June, has already donated nearly two

Learning Flows for Sands China

Sands China Team Members visited Macao Water to

learn about water supply, production, and conservation.

“It was a pretty interesting tour,” said one Team Member.

“We use water every day, and we don’t think about it. We

don’t think about where it comes from or how Macao gets

its supply. We just use it. Through the tour I learned more

about Macao’s water supply and how important it is to

practice [being economical] – not just for the sake of our

water bills, but for the sake of the environment as a whole.”

PA. “Since his involvement in the Green Team, he is doing more in his
