About Me

Passionate about me-dia and design, I have acquired substantial knowledge and skills in design and editing e.g. typography, photography and publication design through my studies and extra curricular activities. To put it simply, I am a professionally trained and all-rounded designer.

My enthusiasm and apti-tude are well reflected in the wide array of media and broadcasting ac-

Career Aspirations

Having no doubts that the media field is my career interest, in the short run, I will strive to secure a place in a media-related bachelor’s degree pro-gram. Upon graduation, I would like to work in a Hong Kong broadcast-ing house (e.g. TV station, online TV / radio station) in order to further develop my knowledge and gain experience working in the real media industry.

tivities I have taken part in such as dramas, school radio plays, newsletter editing and district-level functions where I was the master of ceremonies. Such an extensive expo-sure to media-related activities, coupled with the experience of work-ing with professional artists in musical dramas, have broadened my vision and nurtured in me a deep un-derstanding of the art and design industries.

My ultimate ambition, however, is to be an edu-cator who not only teach-es but also inspires the new generation. I hope I will be an expert both in design techniques and on insights and advice-giving in the Hong Kong’s media industry.

Values & Beliefs

I enjoy working on per-forming and designing projects as they give me unlimited space to express myself. I embrace the idea of working without bound-aries and making impos-sible things possible. I love exploring new things too.

Interests & Hobbies

Playing the piano, draw-ing, making handicrafts, exploring new things (e.g places to eat, skills to draw and places to go), design-ing and creating my own photo stories / mini-docu-mentaries on life around me.

Stage WorkPoyi enjoys being on stage. She has been the volunteer Master of Ceremonies (MC) of Southen District’s functions for 3 years. Also, she was in a musical drama when she was in secondary school. These experiences gave her life full of color and vibrancy.

The responsibility of an MC is to make sure the function runs smoothly. I have to be the one who knows every part of the whole function very well. Therefore, preparation is the key to running a good show.

Crisis management

Every time before the show, I need to have a big meeting with all the helpers and staff in order to guarantee all of us know the steps and what would happen. However, sometimes there were unan-ticipated problems. I was the one who was in control of the situation by giving instructions to the helpers. I had to prepare contingency plans and this trained my skill of crisis man-agement.

People Connection

Being active in community functions has widened my social circle. I have to work with different people every time, and have to communi-

cate well with them as I always have chances to conduct interviews. The interviewees may be children and youth performers, elderly, profes-sionals, district representatives or even government officials, and thus I have learned to use different skills to talk with them. I enjoy meeting new people and chatting with them, as I could learn what is happening to different people in society. Their special stories helped me to have a better understand-ing of societal situations and sometimes help me to solve daily problems.

The most impressive show…

The show that impressed me most was “2009 正氣青年新世代公演會暨南區青少年暑期活動閉幕禮“. It was a big-scale func-tion, which took place at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. The numbers of the helpers and audience were the greatest among the show I participated in. It was also the first time I had partnered with a TV artist, Eddi, and added drama elements

into our stage conversations. It was odd to see me and Eddi together because he is much taller than me. However, we tried to put the difference in height as a humor on stage in order to overcome this embar-rassment. In addition, It was very fun to lead the “Thousand People Choir” at the end of the show. The most marvel-ous moment came when the whole audience and all help-ers went onto the stage and sang together, which was very touching and heart-warming.

In the future…

I enjoy being on stage. I could find myself on stage. It provides me a platform to let me know more about myself and also let others know more about Poyi Fung. It is a place to bring myself up to a higher level. It is a place to extend energy to others. Thanks to the commu-nity’s trust, I have been given numerous chances to bring my talent into full play on stage these few years. I treasure the chances given, and I believe that in the future, “The more I perform, the better I can be”

DebatingI spent nearly one-third of my secondary school life on debating. At first, I joined the debate club just to improve my spoken English but I literally fell in love with it as I found it very challenging, exciting and rewarding. Through the two-year-training, my inte-grated English skills (read-ing, writing, speaking and listening), in addition to critical thinking skills, were enhanced after participat-ing in a series of joint school competitions...

Shanghai - Hong Kong Debating Competition

The Shanghai - Hong Kong Debating Competition, which I was selected to join

in my final secondary school year, was a three-day-two-night camp. Since we did not know the topic of the final round until the day before the competition, we had to pre-pare the speeches overnight.

Working without computers but only newspaper, as well as resilience, we accom-plished the task successfully. We have developed a deep friendship among us through this competition.

Extra-Curricular Activitiescharge of was “I Love PuiTa-kians” a radio broadcast for supporting Form 5 and Form 7 students who were going to face the public exams. I had to work from scratch from writ-ing the proposal, promoting the programme, and finally broadcasting it. This valuable engagement in a big-scale project opened my eyes to the complexity of broadcast-ing production.

My first play: In the room

I had a precious opportunity to learn to be a soundman in an external drama orga-nization thanks to my mu-sic teachers’ nomination. I was the sound designer for a play called “In my room”, produced by a local drama group, Art Kisko. It was a story about a girl who suffered from mental illness and how she faced life. Due to the nature of the play, blue music is fea-tured to create the mood of sadness and loneliness to de-pict the girl’s mind. Before pro-ducing the sound plays, I also attended a summer course of stage production where I conversed with professional artists and producers. I gained more insiders’ views into the art industry which prepared me better for my career.

My inaugural radio broadcast

I was the school pianist and took part in the school radio of my secondary school. The first big production I was in

Exchange TourThanks to the school’s nomination, I had joined two exchange tours when I was in secondary school. It was the first time I had left Hong Kong when I went on the JPC’s Shanghai Tour when I was 15 and a junior student. Two years later when I was in senior form, I was offered another trip to Beijing, which was organized by the Hong Kong As-sociation of Youth Development.

The activities pursued outside school... The process of exploring the world... The color painting on my life...

The JPC tour was a typical one for junior students, which aims at training our discipline and team spirit. However, I was impressed by the later one most as it is for the se-nior students. The Beijing tour contained more responsibility to hold for everyone during the trip than the pervious one. My dual role as a director and traveler, as will be described below, explains how the seed of interest in media was sowed in my heart.

Director

On the Beijing tour, I was selected as the director of the exchange culture show of Southern and Kwun Tong Districts. It was very exhilarat-ing being a director for the first time. Both of the two shows during the 5-day-trip sharp-ened my trouble-shooting

skills and at the same time reflected my qualities. In the first show, a Acapalla musical drama. with the limited avail-ability of audio equipment, I managed to retain the musi-cal nature of the show by in-corporating the philharmonic skills. As for the second one,

to give the Beijing audience a taste of friendliness from Hong Kong students, I arranged a simple singing show synchro-nized by sign language. The harmony is still vivid in my mind reinforcing my belief that me-dia and communication is for connecting people.

Traveler

In Beijing, we visited lots of tourist hotspots. Among all, we were very excited when we first stepped on the Great Wall and we created a slogan “我們都是長城” in the later produc-tion of a documentary video. Visiting the The Beijing National Stadium and Water Cube was also cool as besides visiting, we also had a chance to have an interview with the athletes and volunteers.
