When your pipe is this good, why change it?Same pipe constructionPetroTechnik’s UPP System has met the revised specifi cation for the UL and cUL 971 2005; covering underground non-metallic pipe and fi ttings intended for use in the distribution and secondary containment of fl ammable liquids.
PetroTechnik has made some minor revisions to its existing product range keeping the basic pipe construction the same. This means that the UPP System is proven in the fi eld and not just in the lab. It also means pricing can remain extremely competitive.
New added benefi tsThe new UL approved double wall secondary containment pipe is an integral pipe. The secondary pipe now has a thicker wall and an inner permeation liner the same as in the primary pipe.
The secondary containment of 3" double wall pipe has been reduced to only 4" (down from 6") achieving a 90% reduction in the interstitial space volume. As a result the 3" double wall system is less bulky and now standard UPP tools can be used when installing the pipe.
UL approval initially covers:
1½", 2", 3" and 4" Double wall product pipe
1½", 2", 3" and 4" Single wall and double wall vent and vapor recovery pipe.
The double wall (coaxial pipes) include lined secondary containment without ribs or stand-offs in the secondary layer. A full annular interstitial space exists between the primary and secondary pipes
No compatibility issuesThe new UL approved UPP System is still as fl exible as it has always been, allowing it to snake and bend on site without the need for elbow joints.
However, it is rigid enough to be certifi ed by CARB for vapor recovery applications.
The new pipe is also still entirely electrofusable and existing fi ttings and electrofusion seals are compatible.
Sliding reducers are now available to make secondary in line joint connections and/or direct buried double wall tees and elbows.
All rubber test boots have been eliminated and replaced by welded polyethylene boots that will not degrade over time.
Over 46 million feet of UPP pipe has been installed in over 145 countries since 1981, that’s over 26 years of genuine fi eld testing.

The polyethylene construction of UPP pipe allows all connections to be joined using an electrofusion welding process.
Electrofusion welding provides a joint which is stronger than the pipe itself, and with no leak paths.
Electrofusion is carried out quickly and simply using specialist tools available from PetroTechnik. It can be carried out in adverse weather conditions and climates and will always give a strong and secure joint.
A large variety of electrofusion fi ttings are available, from simple couplers (for making in-line pipework joints), to welded terminations (for terminating double wall secondary containment pipework) and entry seals.

Cut pipe to length allowing for correct insertion depth into welding coupler
Prepare the pipes and fi ttings for welding using the pipe scraping tool provided in the UPP tool kit
Measure and mark pipe or fi tting to indicate correct insertion depth
Clean scraped areas of pipe or fi tting using a lint free cloth moistened with Acetone. Acetone removes oils, fi ngerprints and moisture
Clean bore of welding coupler or fi tting with Acetone
Assemble the joint and use clamp to hold in place. Check insertion is up to the premarked depth indication
Connect clamped assembly to welder and follow welding unit instructions. Ensure appropriate welding cables are used
Allow joint to cool to ambient temperature. At least 20 minutes should pass before any stresses are exerted upon the assembly
FOLLOW INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. NON-COMPLIANCE WILL INVALIDATE WARRANTY AND INSTALLER CERTIFICATION.
