    What is a Surplus Rebate Account (SRA)?The SRA is a unique, non-vesting policy benet until retirement (ater the age o 60) or death. Allocations

    to the SRA are based on the number oUnits o Beneftheld in the PPS Provider policy. Additional annual

    allocations can be enjoyed i any o the PPS Investments range o products is purchased. Importantly, all

    allocations to the SRA continue to be made irrespective o a policyholders claim history or claim status.

    Many o our members have accumulated SRA balances greater than their total

    premium payments!

    Example:

    Mr Proessional, age 67, PPS policyholder or 41 years

    Total premiums paid: R197,256

    Total sick pay received: R92,370

    SRA balance as at 31/12/2009: R1,141,503

    So, Mr Proessional has benefted rom over R1 million in allocations to his SRA

    substantially more than his total premium payments to PPS Insurance!**

    In 2009 alone, PPS allocated a record breaking R2,6 billion to members Surplus Rebate Accounts.

    Over the last ve years, the cumulative allocations to members amounted to R7,6 billion. Assets have

    grown rom R8.5 billion in 2005 to R14 billion in 2009.

    At retirement, ater the age

    o 60, the PPS SRA Retention

    Option becomes available,

    which enables you to set

    up regular withdrawals at

    your chosen requency, to

    supplement your retirement

    income, without transaction

    costs or penalties. This greatly

    reduces the rate at which

    your other post-retirement

    assets such as living annuities

    are used, prolonging the

    durability o those assets. The

    PPS SRARetention Option can

    also be used to simply leave

    the ull value o your SRAinvested in your chosen und,

    allowing your nest egg to

    continue to grow.

    At the age o 55, as you near

    your retirement age, you

    have a choice as to how the

    SRA assets are invested. The

    decision o how to invest the

    SRA in this phase is important

    in that it will have a

    signicant impact on the

    eventual withdrawal

    benets throughout your

    retirement years.

    Many policyholders have

    accumulated SRA balances

    greater than their total

    premium payments. History

    has shown that in just seven

    years, the value o the SRA

    can equal the total amount o

    premiums paid or the Units o

    As a graduate proessional, you use your hard earned proessional knowledge and expertise to generate an

    income. Should you all ill, suer an injury or, at worst, become permanently incapacitated, you want to be

    certain that you are able to pay your day-to-day expenses whilst you are unable to work.

    PPS Sickness and Permanent Incapacity Beneft does just that, or as long as you practise your chosen

    proession.

    How does PPS Sickness and Permanent Incapacity

    Beneft work?

    Your Gross Proessional Income (GPI) determines how many Units o Beneft (UOB) you can subscribe to.

    You pay a level premium or these UOB. Benets are paid out or the period that you are unable to carry out

    your proessional duties, due to sickness or injury. Additional UOB can be subscribed to as your GPIgrows. The

    premium or these UOB is determined by the age at which you subscribe to them.

    Ordinary UOB is our core benet oering, providing cover or sickness, injury and permanent incapacity. In

    addition to Ordinary UOB, members can subscribe to Supplementary A, Supplementary Band Deerred UOB,

    which enable members to structure optimal cover or their needs, giving either more sickness or more

    permanent incapacity cover.

    PPS Sickness and Permanent Incapacity Beneft is dependent on the number and type o UOB held at any

    given time. Make sure that you top-up your UOB each time your GPIincreases. PPS Insurance will also issueadditional UOB each year, ree o medicals, to help your benets keep pace with ination.

    PPS Sickness Beneft:

    Pays rom day one or a sickness lasting seven consecutive days or longer (including weekends and

    public holidays)

    Pays or a maximum sickness payment period o an aggregate o 728 days or the same, consequential

    or related illness

    Uniquely covers partial sickness claims, oering an invaluable benet whilst you recuperate and get

    back on your eet (payable even i you are working)

    PPS Occupation Specifc Rider Beneft (optional)

    PPS Occupation Specifc Rider Beneft (OSRB) is an add-on or rider benet, which pays out a monthly

    permanent incapacity benet.

    Add-on benet to the PPS Permanent Incapacity Beneft

    Increases any permanent incapacity award to 100% benet

    Once awarded, it is never reviewed and pays a monthly permanent incapacity benet until you turn 66

    Pays out even i you recover and start working again in your own occupation

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Is PPS Sickness and Permanent Incapacity Beneftsimilar to an income protection cover?No. I you had an income protection policy, you would have to prove loss o income when you claim. With

    PPS Sickness and Permanent Incapacity Beneftyou do not need to prove loss o income. All you require is a

    valid medical certicate* rom your doctor and your completed claim orm.

    How do I ensure a balanced portolio o cover?

    Ordinary Units o Beneft (UOB) should be subscribed to, beore you subscribe to any other benet option.

    This will ensure that you hold a balanced portolio o cover, since Ordinary UOB will provide you with both

    sickness and permanent incapacity benets.

    How do I claim?

    You will need to complete a claim orm and provide a valid medical certicate*. The claim should be

    submitted to PPS Insurance within 6 months o the onset o the illness or injury.

    Does my sickness or incapacity claim afect my share o the prots in PPS?

    No. You continue to share in the prots o PPS and your Surplus Rebate Accountremains invested. Your SRA

    benet is not reduced should you claim.

    The nancial consequences o a critical illness or an incapacitating accident can oten be worse than those

    o death. You want to be certain that you have sufcient unding or the necessary liestyle adjustments you

    and your amily will need to make.

    PPS Proessional Health Provider is one o the most comprehensive and innovative critical illness and

    physical impairment lump-sum benets available or qualied graduate proessionals. It covers most

    known dread diseases including cancer, leukaemia, heart disease and strokes. Physical impairments such as

    paraplegia, loss o use o limbs, blindness and deaness are also covered.

    Frequently Asked QuestionsHow does PPS Insurance assess a claim or CatchAll Cover?

    Assessment is done based on Whole Person Impairment (WPI), as established by the American Medical

    Associations Guide to Permanent Impairment. This method is objective and recognised as standard

    assessment criteria by the global medical industry or impairment claims.

    What are the severity levels?There are our severity levels. These levels have been set in accordance with the relative severity o the

    dread disease or impairment event. The severity levels are assessed in terms o PPS Insurance claim criteria.

    Percentage o benet paid are: A level - 100%, B level - 75%, C level - 50% or D level - 25%.

    Dread disease policies usually make you wait beore paying out. How does PPS Proessional Health

    Providerwork?

    For a claim to be valid, you must survive or a period o 14 days ater the event occurs or the condition is

    diagnosed. Dierent survival periods apply to certain conditions such as heart attack, stroke and paralysis.

    Does PPS Insurance cover accidental HIV inection?

    Yes. Accidental HIV inection cover is included at no additional premium. This benet is especially valuable

    to medical proessionals.

    How do multiple claims work?

    For example: Mr Smith has R1 million cover. He is diagnosed with stage 1 prostate cancer or which he

    receives 25% o the cover benet. Two years later he has a new diagnosis o stage 1 lung cancer (an

    unrelated condition) and receives another 25%, as the cover is preserved or unrelated claims. A year later

    this lung cancer progresses to stage 4. He receives the additional 75% benet (100%-25%) or this condition.

    His benet, however, is not exhausted and should his unrelated prostate cancer progress, he will be paid or

    this condition too. This means that even i you have claimed the ull benet, your cover is preserved and you

    are able to claim again or an unrelated event or condition.

    Does PPS Proessional Health Providercover trauma conditions?

    Yes. Gunshot wounds, reconstructive surgery*, accidental injury, coma and major burns are all covered.

    How does Maternity Coverwork?

    The Maternity Coveris an add-on benet with its own sum assured, which covers pregnancy complications

    until the age o 44. The benet pays in our severity levels. You can claim until 100% o Maternity Cover**

    benet has been paid, irrespective o whether you are claiming or a related or unrelated condition. Claims

    under this benet do not aect the PPS Proessional Health Providersum assured.

    What is Core 100% Beneft?

    Adding the Core 100% Beneftto your PPS Proessional Health Providerpolicy means that you will receive a

    100% payout or the major dread disease benets, which include heart attack, stroke, cancer and coronary

    artery bypass grat. Instead o the tiered benet, you will be awarded a 100% benet (even or stage one

    cancer) on a successul claim. This valuable tiered benet remains in place or all the other dread diseaseand trauma conditions.

    PPS Proessional Disability Provideris a stand-alone disability benet that pays a lump sum in the event o

    you becoming disabled. The benet will pay irrespective o any existing lie cover that you may have. It can

    help cover the costs o making any necessary liestyle adjustments that a disability may require.

    Your lie cover will remain intact. Your disability benets may continue i you changed your occupation

    based on the current review processes.

    How does the Immediate Needs Beneftwork?

    In the unortunate event o death, bank accounts are typically rozen as part o the estate, oten placing a

    nancial burden on the loved ones to pay outstanding bills, uneral costs and daily expenses. This benet

    pays up to R50,000, within 2 working days, on presentation o a valid death certicate to PPS Insurance.

    Once the Immediate Needs Beneftpays your beneciaries, the lie cover is automatically reduced and the

    balance is paid out, once all the claim requirements are satised, in accordance with the policy.

    Why do I need PPS Proessional Disability Provider, i I already have PPS Sickness and Permanent

    Incapacity Beneft?

    The two are not the same. PPS Proessional Disability Providerpays out a cash lump-sum amount, to settle

    debt or example, whereas the PPS Sickness and Permanent Incapacity Beneft pays out a regular amount

    based on the number o Units o Beneft you hold with PPS Insurance and the period you are unable to

    practise your proession, due to sickness or injury.

    PPS Accidental Death Product

    The possibility o being involved in a motor vehicle accident, being a victim o crime or suering an accident

    is ever present. PPS Accidental Death Productpays out in the event o an accidental death o a policyholder.

    This benet is also well suited when your underwriting risk precludes you rom obtaining a PPS Proessional

    Lie Providerpolicy. Should a member have PPS Investments products, he can purchase the accidental

    death product in order to have a SRA account which will allow or the accrual o prots rom PPS Investments

    policies.
