Canale and Swain (1980) defined
communicative competence in terms of three
components:[5]
1. Grammatical (Systemic) competence: words
and rules
2. Sociolinguistic competence: appropriateness
3. Strategic competence: appropriate use of
communication strategies

A LEARNER SHOULD KNOW:
To develop strategies to associate the letter´s sound with the writing.
To know some strategies to manage the intonation according with the speaker intention.

seems easy to learn,

I express a specific

Is knowing how to use and respond to language appropriately, given the setting, the topic, and the relationships among the people communicating.
A learner should establish:
1.To use language rules to communicate and to understand the speaker´s intention.
2. Speech rules: How are words, phrases and sentences put together to create conversations, speeches, email messages, newspaper articles?
