    Background of Study

    The survei that had been done by UNESCO on 2011stated that Indonesia childrens are catagorize lackof motivation to read, it even got the last position

    on ASEAN. Based on that, the researcher choosethis topic that have a different approach fromprevious study which will be using online comic asthe material in ELT follow the advance of

    technology use in teaching and learning process tofind out the effectiveness of it towards studentsreading motivation.

    Purpose of Study

    This research will be aimed at finding out :

    1. Narutos comic online effectiveness to

    improve students reading motivation.

    2. Kinds of problem that the students

    encountered during the process of learning

    reading through online comic.

    3. The student ways to solving the problems.

    Research Variable

    Dependent Variable:

    The dependent variable depends on what the independentvariable does to it, how it affects it (Fraenkel J.R., 2012, p. 80).

    Reffering to the definition, the dependent variable of the

    research is the students reading motivation.

    Independent Variable:

    Fraenkel (2012, p. 80) stated that, Independent variablesarethose that the researcher chooses to study in order to assesstheir possible effect(s) on one or more other variables.Based on the definition, the independent variable of theresearch is Narutos comic online site.

    Hypothesis

    Null Hypotheses (H0) :

    There is no significant difference in reading

    motivation between students who are taught by

    Narutos comic online and those who are not.

    Alternative Hypotheses (H1):

    There is a significant difference in readingmotivation between students who are taught by

    Narutos comic online and those who are not.

    Supporting Theories Motivation

    Edmunds and Bauserman (2006) as cited in Barnes and Monroe (2011, p. 2)said that Motivation frequently makes the difference between learning thatis temporary and superficial and learning that is permanent and internalizedwhich mean motivation is the key role in learning.

    Reading

    Grabe and Stoller (2002, p.9) notes Reading is ability to draw meaning firm

    the printed page and interpret this information appropriately. Online Strategies

    Boettcher and Conrad (2010, p. 7) notes that . Online courses are more of abottom-up development of knowledge that require learners to interact withone another and the content resources to construct their knowledge

    Comic

    Comic is a modern art of graphics which purposively used for telling a story asstate by Petersen (2011, para. 16) Graphic narratives express ideas bytransforming them into a story where the actions of characters become a wayof describing experiences and sensations beyond ones own lived experience.

    Research Design

    This study will adopt a Mixed method approach

    which using a quantitative and qualitative

    approaches.

    Quantitative approach; where the writer will

    use true experimental study

    Qualitative approach; the writer will use

    analytical study.

    Population and Sample

    Population (Target Population)

    The populations of the research are all of EightGrade students in one of Junior High School inCiamis which consists of seventh classes.

    Sample (Cluster Random Group)

    Two class of eight grade student on Junior HighSchool.

    Sampling TechniqueThe researcher will use purposive sampling tochoose the class that will be used to research.
