2. Outdoor temperature sensor, weather protective enclosure for upright mounting, Type III,10K thermistor, +/- 0.4 °F accuracy.

3. Duct static pressure transducer, 0-5 in w c pressure range, 5 VDC operation, tubing (by

others) from sensor to static pressure pickup tube must not exceed 250 ft and must becontinuous without splices.

4. Building static pressure sensor, glass filled polyester case, tensioned stainless steeldiaphragm and insulated stainless steel electrode, 0.0 to 5.0 VDC output in response to a -0.25

to +0.25 in WC pressure differential, +/-1% of full scale accuracy.B. Air flow measurement digital transmitters.

1. E-BUS adapter board for connecting either EBTRON or Paragon airflow digital transmitters

to the VCB-X controller.

2.02 CONTROL SEQUENCE

A. Supply Fan Operation1. When the supply fan is enabled, and a 1 minute min off timer is met, the supply fan relay is

activated while the other outputs are held off until their minimum off timers are met.2. When the supply fan is enabled an adjustable fan starting delay is initiated to provide a

staggered start of multiple HVAC units.3. When going into Occupied Mode, an adjustable length purge mode is initiated. The fan

runs with the economizer closed, and heating and cooling are disabled.

4. When the supply fan is disabled, it is held on for 2 minutes after heating or cooling stops.5. Occupied mode operation: The supply fan runs continuously.6. Unoccupied mode operation: The supply fan cycles on a call for heating or cooling.

7. The supply fan operates at variable speed to control the duct static pressure setpoint.8. The supply fan VFD range shall be 34-100%.

B. Exhaust Fan Operation1. The exhaust fan operates at variable speed to control the building static pressure setpoint.

2. The exhaust fan VFD range shall be 5-100%C. Supply Air Tempering

1. The operating mode (Heating or Cooling) is determined by the outdoor air sensor.

2. If the outside air temperature is greater than the outside air cooling setpoint, the unit is incooling mode, controlling to the supply air setpoint.

3. If the outside air temperature is less than the outside air heating setpoint, the unit is in

heating mode, controlling to the supply air setpoint.D. Occupied/Unoccupied Selection. Selecting occupied and unoccupied operation is determined by

the schedule, which is user adjustable through the Graphical User Interface and can bedownloaded to the unit controller over the system network.

E. Optimal Start. For optimal start the unit monitors how long it takes the return air temperature toreach the warm-up or cool-down target temperature each day and adjusts the starting timeaccordingly. After 6 normally scheduled starts the routine will have gathered enough data to

provide a fairly accurate pre-start based on learned conditions. This is an ongoing process of thesix previous starts, so the unit automatically adjusts for changing seasons.

F. Unoccupied Operation

1. The BMS monitors the spaces served by the unit and enables occupied mode whenheating or cooling is required during unoccupied hours.

2. Unoccupied heating and cooling are obtained when the RTU controller compares the returnair temperature to the warm-up and cool-down target temperatures. The unoccupied space

heating and cooling setpoints are set such that they are below and above the target temperaturesand their dead bands do not overlap. Thus the unit will perform unoccupied heating and coolingcalls with the outside air damper closed.

a. Unoccupied Space Heating Setpoint = 65 °Fb. Morning Warm-up Target Temperature = 71 °Fc. Unoccupied Space Cooling Setpoint = 81 °F

d. Morning Cool-down Target Temperature = 75 °Fe. Space Temperature Deadband = +/- 2 °F

3. Off Mode: During unoccupied mode, if there is no call for heating or cooling, the unit is off.G. HVAC Operating Modes

1. Heating and Cooling modes are selected by the outside air temperature sensor.2. Cooling Mode

a. Cooling is enabled when the outdoor air temperature (OAT) rises 1 °F above the Cooling

Setpoint (55 °F). Cooling is disabled when the outdoor air temperature falls 1 °F below theCooling Setpoint.

b. Mechanical cooling is enabled if the OAT is 1 °F above the Cooling Lockout Setpoint (55°F) and disabled when the OAT is 1 °F below the Cooling Lockout Setpoint. If the OAT

disables mechanical cooling while it is operating, it will stage off as minimum run times andstage down delays are satisfied.

3. Cooling Mode - Digital Compressor

a. The Copeland Control Board requires a 24VAC enable and a 1-5 VDC input where 1.0VDC is 0% capacity and 5.0VDC is 100% capacity. When the signal falls below 10%capacity (1.25VDC on decreasing demand) the Variable Capacity Compressor Controller

will shut down the compressor. When the signal rises above 10% capacity (1.44 VDC onincreasing demand) and the anti-short cycle timer has timed out, the Variable Capacitycompressor controller will start the compressor again.

b. Typical One Circuit Unit: (one variable capacity compressor & one on/off compressor)

c. There will be the following set of terminals. [Y1], [Y2], [DC1-] & [DC1].d. Staging Up Sequence: When the supply air temperature sensor rises above the supply air

set point, the RTU controller enables [Y1] and sends a 1.44 -5 VDC signal to [DC1-] &

[DC1+]. The variable scroll compressor will go to its minimum position and modulate up asneeded. When the variable compressor reaches 100%, the stage up delay will begin. If it isstill at 100% when the delay expires, [Y2] is enabled. The RTU controller then sets the

variable compressor back down to it minimum position and modulates it as needed.e. Staging Down Sequence: The on/off [Y2] will remain enabled until the variable compressor

call falls below its minimum position. Once [Y2] is disabled, the RTU controller sets thevariable compressor to 100% and modulates it as needed.

f. Standard Compressor 5 minute run time and off time delays safeties are required.g. BAS shall control temperature between 50 deg and 65 deg as the low and high DAT's

respectively.

4. Economizera. Economizer is enabled when the Outdoor Air dry bulb temperature is 1 °F below the

Economizer Enable Setpoint (70 °F) . Economizer is disabled when the OAT is 1°F above

the Economizer Enable setpoint.

b. Economizer is the 1st stage of cooling and controls to the Supply Air Setpoint. The

economizer modulates between the Economizer Minimum Position and 100%. If the

economizer is at 100% and the Supply air Temperature is above setpoint, mechanical

cooling is enabled and the economizer is held at 100%. If cooling stages are currently

running, and economizer is enabled, it opens to 100%.

c. In Unoccupied Mode, the economizer can be used for night setback free cooling otherwise

its closed.

5. Heating Mode

a. Heating is enabled when the OAT falls 1 °F below the Heating Setpoint (55 °F). Heating is

disabled when the outdoor air temperature rises 1 °F above the Heating Setpoint.

b. The Gas burner is enabled when the OAT is 1 °F below the Heating Lockout Setpoint (50

°F). Heating is disabled when the OAT is 1 °F above the Heating Lockout Setpoint. If the

OAT disables heating while it is operating, it stages off as minimum run times and stage

down delays are satisfied.

6. Heating Mode - Modulating Gas Burner

a. A MODGAS-X expansion board controls the modulating gas burners.

b. An enable signal, Supply Air Temperature Setpoint, and Supply Air Temperature Reset (if

applicable) are sent from the third party RTU controller to the MODGAS-X.

c. The MODGAS-X uses these values to stage and modulate the gas burner(s) to maintain

the supply air temperature setpoint.

H. Morning Warm-Up Mode

1. When Occupied Mode is enabled and the return air temperature is below the Morning

Warm-Up Target Temperature, Warm-Up is initiated. Heating is controlled to the Supply Air

Temperature setpoint.

2. Warm-Up ends when the return air temperature rises above the Target Temperature or the

Time Period expires. The outdoor air damper remains closed during Warm-Up mode.

3. Only one Warm-Up mode is allowed per occupied cycle.

I. Morning Cool-down Mode Operation

1. When Occupied Mode is enabled and the return air temperature above the Morning

Cool-Down Target Temperature, Cool-Down is initiated. Cooling is controlled to the Supply Air

Temperature setpoint.

2. Cool-Down ends when the return air temperature drops below the Target Temperature or

the Time Period expires. The outdoor air damper remains closed during Cool-Down mode.

3. Only one Cool-Down mode is allowed per occupied cycle.

J. Supply Air Temperature Reset

1. The BMS resets the supply air temperature over BACnet.

K. Duct Static Pressure Reset.

1. The BMS resets the duct static pressure setpoint over BACnet.

L. Minimum Outside Air Flow Rate Reset.

1. The BMS resets the minimum outside airflow rate setpoint over BACnet.

M. The following Sensors are installed in the unit by BAS.

1. Emergency Shutdown Contact

2. Fan Proving Sensor

3. Dirty Filter Sensor

4. Outdoor Air Temperature Sensor

5. Return Air Temperature Sensor

N. Temperature Protection

1. Temperature protection is activated when the supply air temperature (SAT) rises above the

High Cutoff Temperature (immediate) or drops below the Low Cutoff Temperature (for 10

minutes). In either case, an alarm is created. Both cutoff setpoints are adjustable. This mode

shuts off the unit (with a 3 minute fan off delay) until the mode is cancelled.

2. The mode is cancelled when the SAT drops 5 degrees below the High Cutoff Temperature

Setpoint or rises 5 degrees above the Low Temp Cutoff Temperature Setpoint or when the unit

changes back into Occupied Operation.

O. Outdoor Air Lockouts

1. The compressors are disabled during Cooling Mode when the outdoor air temperature is

below the Compressor Cooling Lockout Setpoint.

2. Heating is disabled when the outdoor air temperature is above the Heating Lockout

Setpoint.

P. Sensor Failure Alarms

1. Supply Air Temperature Failure Alarm: open or short circuit is detected on the supply air

temperature sensor input. Once the alarm is generated, the unit will shut down. If a sensor is

detected after the unit has alarmed, the alarm is cleared and the unit will restart.

2. Outdoor Air Temperature Sensor Failure Alarm: open or short circuit on the outdoor air

temperature sensor input. When this occurs, the outdoor air reading is set to the half point

between the Cooling and Heating Lockout Setpoints. This will allow cooling and heating to

continue operating.

3. Compressor Discharge Failure Alarm: unit is configured to have a digital scroll compressor,

but the sensor is not detected or shorted.

Q. Mechanical Failure Alarms

1. Proof of Flow Interlock Alarm. A proof of flow switch provides a 24 VAC wet contact

closure when the supply fan is operating. If this contact opens while the fan is called to run, all

heating and cooling is disabled, and a Fan Proving Alarm is generated.

2. Dirty Filter Alarm. A differential pressure switch provides a 24 VAC wet contact closure to

indicate a dirty filter status. A Dirty Filter Alarm is generated when filter pressure drop exceeds

the configured value.

3. Emergency Shutdown Alarm.

a. An input from the fire alarm will initiate instantaneous shutdown of the unit and will

generate an alarm condition.

R. Failure Mode Alarms

1. High Supply Temp Alarm: supply air temperature rises above the High Cutoff Temperature

setpoint (immediate). This mode shuts off the unit (with a 3 minute fan off delay) until the mode

is cancelled. This mode is canceled when the SAT drops 5 degrees below the High Cutoff

Temperature setpoint or when the unit changes back into Occupied Operation.

2. Low Supply Temp Alarm: supply air temperature drops below the Low Cutoff Temperature

setpoint (for 10 minutes). This mode is canceled when the SAT rises 5 degrees above the Low

Cutoff Temperature setpoint or when the unit changes back into Occupied Operation.

3. High Control Temp Alarm: controlling sensor temperature rises above the Cooling Mode

Enable Setpoint plus the Control Mode High Alarm Offset setpoint.

4. Low Control Temp Alarm: controlling sensor temperature drops below the Heating Mode

Enable Setpoint minus the Control Mode Low Alarm Offset setpoint.

5. Digital compressor Cutoff Alarm: digital compressor discharge temperature is above 268 °F

or the sensor is shorted, which will read a temperature of 300 °F.

6. Digital Compressor Lockout Alarm: 5 Digital Compressor High Temperature Cutoffs occur

within four hours. The digital compressor is locked out and manual reset is required. If the unit

runs for 60 minutes without a digital compressor discharge temperature alarm, the counter is

reset to zero.

7. High Head Pressure Alarm: head pressure exceeds an acceptable limit. The alarm is

cleared if the head pressure falls below acceptable limits.
