THE PARISH CHURCH OF ALL SAINTS UPPER TWICKENHAM 25 TH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR How easy to take the words of Jesus out of context: “Use money to win you friends,” is one of those lines that sounds strange to us outside the context of the parable and the teaching in today’s Gospel. Even the parable itself can seem a little strange – is Jesus really recommending that we act like dishonest stewards? No, of course not! The point that reveals this is hidden half way down: “The children of this world are more astute in dealing with their own kind…” Jesus in a way praises the effort of the dishonest steward, but wishes that it was directed less to worldly things, but to the things of heaven. And this is the message that we are to take: where do we direct our energies – to making money, fame, fortune and success, or to finding “friends in heaven”? WELCOME TO MASS If you are new here, please make yourself know to the Priest. There are toys for our younger church in the Entrance of the Hall. Refreshements are served after Mass, do join us.

THE PARISH CHURCH OF ALL SAINTS

UPPER TWICKENHAM

2

25TH SUNDAY

OF THE YEAR

How easy to take the words of Jesus out of context: “Use money to win you friends,” is one of those lines that sounds strange to us outside the context of the parable and the teaching in today’s Gospel.

WELCOME TO MASS

If you are new here, please make yourself know to the Priest.

There are toys for our younger church in the Entrance of the Hall.

Refreshements are served after Mass, do join us.

ENTRANCE HYMN

F

ather, hear the prayer we offer:

not for ease that prayer shall be,

but for strength, that we may ever

live our lives courageously.

Not for ever in green pastures

do we ask our way to be ;

but the steep and rugged pathway

may we tread rejoicingly.

Not forever by still waters

would we idly rest and stay;

but would smite the living fountains

from the rocks along our way.

Be our strength in hours of weakness,

in our wanderings be our Guide;

through endeavor, failure, danger,

Saviour, be thou at our side.

PENITENTIAL RITE

May almighty God have mercy on us, Forgive us our sins,

And bring us to everlasting life. Amen.

GLORIA IN EXCELSIS

THE COLLECT

O

God, who founded all the commands of your sacred Law upon love of you and of our neighbour,

grant that, by keeping your precepts,

we may merit to attain eternal life.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

First reading 1 Timothy 2:1-8

The Word of the Lord

Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

Second reading 1 Timothy 2:1-8

The Word of the Lord

Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATIONSTAND

Schola: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

All: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

THE HOLY GOSPEL Luke 16:1-13

At the end the reader sings or says:

THE PROFESSION OF FAITH STAND

I

believe in one God,

the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation

he came down from heaven,

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary

and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory

to judge the living and the dead

and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

Lord hear us, Be pleased to hear us

Lord, Graciously hear us. Lord, we ask you, hear

our prayer.

Lord in your mercy Let us pray to the Lord

Hear our prayer Lord, have mercy

Hail Mary, full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

HYMN AT THE PREPARATION OF THE ALTAR

L

ove is his word, love is his way,

feasting with all, fasting alone,

living and dying, rising again,

love, only love, is his way:

Richer than gold is the love of my Lord,

better than splendour and wealth.

Love is his way, love is his mark,

sharing his last Passover feast,

Christ at his table, host to the twelve,

love, only love, is his mark:

Love is his mark, love is his sign,

bread for our strength, wine for our joy,

"This is my body, this is my blood' -

love, only love, is his sign:

Love is his sign, love is his news,

'Do this,' he said, 'lest you forget

all my deep sorrow, all my dear blood' -

love, only love, is his news:

Love is his news, love is his name,

we are his own, chosen and called,

family, brethren, cousins and kin,

love, only love, is his name:

Love is his name, love is his law,

hear his command, all who are his

'Love one another, I have loved you'

love, only love, is his law.

Love is his law, love is his word:

love of the Lord, Father and Word,

love of the Spirit, God ever one,

love, only love, is his word:

Pray, brethren, that this my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God the almighty Father.

May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good, and the good of all his holy Church.

The celebrant continues with the Eucharistic prayer until we sing:

H

oly, holy, holy Lord.

Holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts.

Heaven and earth, heaven and earth

Are full of your glory, Lord God of Hosts.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

B

lessed, blessed is he who comes;

Blessed, blessed is he who comes;

Blessed is he, blessed is he who comes in the Name of the Lord

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

We all KNEEL as the Celebrant continues with the Eucharistic Prayer. After the Lord’s words are said over the bread and the chalice we use the following response:

The Mystery of Faith

W

hen we eat this bread and drink this cup,

We proclaim your death, O Lord,

We proclaim your death, O Lord,

until you come again

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

At the end of prayer we all sing:

Amen.

COMMUNION RITE

THE LORD’S PRAYER STAND

At the Saviour’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

Our Father, Who art in heaven

Hallowed be Thy Name;

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

For the Kingdom, the power

and the glory are yours

Now and for ever.

Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles: peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins but on the faith of your Church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign for ever and ever.

Amen.

And with your spirit.

AGNUS DEIKNEEL

R/: Hear our prayer, hear our prayer.

Through this bread and wine we share,

May we be a sign of peace ev’rywhere.

COMMUNION

Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sin of the world. Blessed are those who are called to the supper of the lamb.

Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

When offered the Host or when given a blessing the response is:

Amen.

DURING HOLY COMMUNION

T

he Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want;

He makes me lie in pastures green.

He leads me by the still, still waters,

His goodness restores my soul.

And I will trust in You alone,

And I will trust in You alone,

For Your endless mercy follows me,

Your goodness will lead me home.

He guides my ways in righteousness,

And He anoints my head with oil,

And my cup, it overflows with joy,

I feast on His pure delights.

And though I walk the darkest path,

I will not fear the evil one,

For You are with me, and Your rod and staff

Are the comfort I need to know.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION STAND

Please SIT as the Banns of Marriage and notices are given

THE CONCLUDING RITES

The Lord be with you

And with your spirit.

May almighty God bless you, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The Priest dismisses us and we respond:

Thanks be to God.

FINAL HYMN

L

ove divine, all loves excelling,

joy of heaven, to earth come down,

fix in us thy humble dwelling,

all thy faithful mercies crown.

Jesu, thou art all compassion,

pure unbounded love thou art;

visit us with thy salvation,

enter every trembling heart.

Come, almighty to deliver,

let us all thy grace receive;

suddenly return, and never,

never more thy temples leave.

Thee we would be always blessing,

serve thee as thy hosts above;

pray, and praise thee, without ceasing,

glory in thy perfect love.

Finish then thy new creation:

pure and spotless let us be;

let us see thy great salvation

perfectly restored in thee;

changed from glory into glory

till in heaven we take our place,

till we cast our crowns before thee,

lost in wonder, love, and praise.
