Statement of purpose of the portfolio
This Teaching Portfolio serves two purposes: The first is to demonstrate to others how I
approach teaching. The second purpose is personal --- I use this portfolio and the
reflections in it to guide me as I modify and adapt my teaching methods throughout my
(OJT) On the Job Training. This portfolio includes my Teaching Philosophy as well as
how I have applied that philosophy to my teaching experiences and my professional
development. I include artifacts, self-assessments and other evidence of my growth as
a future teacher.

Prayer of the Pre-Service Teachers
Eternal God,
We are truly grateful of the blessing that you have showered upon us.
Thank you for the gift of life, for the loving students, for the loving and caring family,
for the understanding and compassionate teachers, for the supportive principal and for
this wonderful day that we are about to share together with your guidance and
protection.
Bless us all as we are about to deal a new lesson, new knowledge to inculcate, new
experiences to embrace, new ideas to share, new values to feed our morale, new
output of our painstaking labor to fulfill our satisfaction, new opinions to open up with
others, new camaraderie to develop and a lot more that we are humbly asking from your
most benevolent heart that grant simple requests into a sure reality.
Lord, Bless all schools that it may dynamically and competitively become a center for
sound learning, new discovery, and the pursuit of wisdom; and grant that those who
teach and those learn may find you to be the source of all truth and wisdom.
Lord, we ask forgiveness for all the sins that we have committed and we are sincerely
accepting your Holy Spirit to rule our hearts and minds so that we can avoid the
temptations and some forms of evil as we continue fulfilling our roles in this beautiful
world as children of God. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who
lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever Amen.

Teachers Creed
I am a teacher. I accept the challenge to be sagacious and tenacious in teaching
every student, because I believe every student can learn.
I accept the responsibility to create a learning environment conducive to optimum
achievement academically, socially, and emotionally.
I actively pursue excellence for my students and myself.
I provide a model of decorum and respect that my students as well as honors
them.
I affirm superlative expectations for my students and myself.
I cherish every student.
I m a teacher. I change the world one student at a time.
Practice Teaching Portfolio 2015
Personal Education Philosophy
As to what Ive experienced on my On the Job Training at Lagro High School, I
strongly believe that Education should be inclusive, fair and just for all of the students. I
remember when Im on my secondary years, during my 4th year in High School, I am
very eager to finish my studies and take up an Education course, for I envision myself
as a teacher that could help the new generation to become responsible and successful
citizens of our country despite of their status in life.
One of my goals is to use preventive and supportive behavior strategies more
than corrective. I hope to achieve this by engaging lessons and clear expectations.
From my educational experiences, I know how valuable teacher encouragement and
motivation is for personal motivation. I intend to motivate students while teaching them
to be intrinsically motivated through challenging yet supportive lessons, projects and
assignments. As a future TLE teacher, I desire to help the students by teaching them
the different skills that they can use especially when it comes to entrepreneurship.
I may be an idealistic teacher now but I strongly hope and believe that what I
envision and aims today will happen and be visible in the future through my students.

Personal Insights on the Pre-service training
experience
My first week in our OJT has been a good experience because Ive learned a lot
during my observation to Sir Millares, my cooperating teacher. Despite of not having a
background about Electronics, a specialization which is assigned to me, my cooperating
teacher has been a very supporting one, for he reminds and reviews me with the lesson
before letting me in the class and also for me to be able to understand the lessons
before my students.
During the second week, Ive felt a bit bored because Im still observing, unlike
my other co-student teachers theyre now handling their entire classes. But when my
cooperating teacher explained to me the reason why he cant let me handle the class,
Ive understand his point because according to him The lesson is a bit technical and
so he cant let me in doing so. He gave me an assignment, a lesson to be discussed
next year and Ive felt excited about that.
On my third week Ive discussed the assignment that has been given to me
which is to discuss the lesson about Polarity in Electronic Components. After the
experience Ive realized how hard it is to discuss the topic especially to me who doesnt
have any background about electronics; my discussion has been purely coming from
research (book, internet) and has not been integrated to some real life applications etc..
On my fourth week, Ive been to other class which is Maam Vitugs with my co-
student teacher Kristine because that was periodical week. Ive also experienced how to
administer the periodical exam to 2nd year students because their adviser was absent at
that time. Weve also submitted our demonstration teaching schedule to the TLE
Department Head.
This week has been an observation week to some of the TLE teachers together
with the TLE department Head because she said that the reason why were doing this is
to observe the different strategies/methods in teaching that we can use in our
demonstration teaching and also to our future profession.
On my sixth week, it was still an observation week and at the same time Ive
discussed about the Types of Capacitors. Unlike my first discussion I have more
confidence now and maximized the time of discussion with the help of my cooperating
IV
...
Practice Teaching Portfolio 2015
teacher. Ive also asked some advices from my cooperating teacher regarding my
upcoming Demonstration Teaching on the month of February.
On my seventh week, Ive learned a lot again from the lessons of my cooperating
teacher. Weve also had a meeting with the TLE Department Head regarding our
upcoming Demonstration Teaching, reminders, lesson plans, and evaluation forms that
we need to prepare.
On my 8th week, Ive listened and observed to my cooperating teacher while he
was discussing the topic about Transistors and after that he had let me discuss the
topic to the last 2 periods of his classes.
This is the ninth week and this is also our demonstration week. On the first day,
the batch of ICT student teachers together with one of the cookery student teachers had
their demonstration teaching. Weve also prepared for the foods, lesson plans and
evaluation forms that we need because we are scheduled on the second day. Im very
grateful and blessed because our batch has been an excellent one.
Weve been in the school for only two days because we have some events in our
University for the other 2 days. Weve helped the last batch of Student Teachers
Demonstration and weve also had the periodical exam of the students for the 4th
grading period.
This is my last week in Practice Teaching. I have mixed emotions, Im happy that
Im about to finish the Practicum at the same time Im a bit sad because I will miss my
students and our very supporting teacher Sir Millares. All in all, I had a wonderful
experience with them and my stay in Lagro High School. I will never forget these days
that has been so special to me and have inspired me as a future teacher someday.

Brief Description of the Site of practice teaching
HISTORY OF LAGRO HIGH SCHOOL
In the early seventies, the growing number of people in the GSIS La Mesa
Homeowners Association (GLAMEHA) triggered the need for a high school in Lagro
Subdivision. The officers of GLAMEHA requested fervently for an establishment of a
high school next to Lagro Elementary School. With the aid of the city government and
the education bureau, Novaliches High School with Mr. Florencio Dumlao as principal
started accepting students. This high school annex started on June 13, 1974 with 87
students and a facility, which were humbly two housing units in Block 59 and chairs the
students provided themselves.
On August 26 of the same year, Lagro Annex was transferred to the Lagro
Elementary School compound and occupied the sawali-walled makeshift building. The
high school was then headed by Mr. Crispulo A. Pilar with Mr. Narciso M. Caingat, Mrs.
Nilfa C. Caingat and Mrs. Greta Manlapig as pioneer teachers.
Two years after, the enrolment rose to 249 from the former 87 with three sections
in first year, two in second year, and one in third year. They were all managed to stay in
just four classrooms guided by nine teachers of Lagro.
The first graduation from this high school happened two years after with an
increased enrolment of 461 with Mrs. Josefa Q. Maglipon, head of the Home Economics
Department in Novaliches High School, who replaced Mr. Pilar(who left for the United
States).
V.
Practice Teaching Portfolio 2015
The School Year 1977-1978 reached 774 with 15 sections occupying seven
classrooms. With this problem on accommodation, Mr. Florencio Dumlao appealed to
the national government for a Lagro Annex Building. Through the unrelenting efforts of
the department head-in-charge and with the PTA lobbying behind, the 1.3 hectare
present school site, and building became a reality.
At the opening of classes on June 11, 1978, 923 students flocked the newly
constructed building which was a two-story 18-room structure standing proudly with
Mrs. Maglipon as head of the school. She was replaced with Mr. Silverio Reinoso. Mr.
Reinoso had to continue with the challenge to manage 19 sections of students with just
32 teachers. It is really a challenge but he overcome with it.
It was the significant day of September 1, 1978 that Lagro High School was
inaugurated by Mrs. Commemoracion M. Concepcion, the former schools division
superintendent. Thus, it has become its foundation day.
Hand in hand with the influx of residents in Lagro Subdivision is the continuous
increase of student population. And to accommodate this increasing population, a six-
room building on the southern site of the campus was constructed. The school then also
improved with the completion of concrete fences surrounding the campus, construction
of the stage and the new steel flagpole, all to house and educate the community for
them to have a better education.
Mr. Reinoso was replaced by Mrs. Virginia H. Cerrudo on September of 1981.
Mrs. Cerrudo was replaced with Ms. Felicidad C. Gutierrez in 1987 bringing
another building funded by the city government. The same year created the Lagro High
School-Payatas Annex with 257 students. This annex was assigned to Mrs. Sheridan
Evangelista, who was then the Social Studies Department Head of the main school.
Promoted as Principal IV, Ms. Gutierres was transferred to E. Rodriguez Jr. High
School. Mr. William S. Barcena took her place as the principal of Lagro High School on
June 1991.
Practice Teaching Portfolio 2015
Three years after, Mr. Barcena was replaced by Mrs. Cristina C. Monis, the
General Education Supervisor I-English, as Officer-In-Charge on January 8, 1993.
Mr. Gil T. Magbanua replaced Mrs. Monis on June 13, 1993
To accommodate the continuous increasing enrollees, the three-story building funded
by the Quezon City Government was constructed. The third Annex in Fairview was
finally opened with Mrs. Justina A. Farolan as the Teacher-In-Charge.
Dr. Consolacion C. Montano replaced Dr. Gil Magbanua later on with more
improvements.
Mrs. Sheridan Evangelista made her comeback as the principal of Lagro High
School in 1998 with improved facilities and technology advancements for the school.
The dawn of more improvements was realized when Dr. Fernando C. Javier
became the principal in April 2003. The construction of the new building previously
applied by Mrs. Sheridan Evangelista was built and inaugurated by the successor, Dr.
Javier. The SB Building and the full renovation of the formerly called Social Hall was
transformed into a multi-purpose conference room conveniently equipped with
multimedia projectors and modern sound technology now being utilized for events,
seminars, workshops by the whole division. The construction of the new gate,
renovations of all facilities and the covered court; Lagro High School now boasts of not
only its talents but its conducive learning ambience sure to provide every learner more
motivation to pursue his dreams.
Lagro High School reaped achievements in the district, division, regional and
national competition under Dr. Javier. The Bureau of Alternative Learning System was
established and soon after the Open High School. The Special Education Program was
established accepting deaf and blind students. The Guidance Program was also
enhanced and improved with the administration of Dr. Javier. International competitions,
speech and debate contests sponsored by the government and private companies,
Palarong Pambansa, National Schools Press Conference and the creation of the
Practice Teaching Portfolio 2015
Special Program in the Arts which annually showcases talents in its culminating
activities.
Today, as we speak, Lagro High School does not only have a growing number of
enrollees but also consistently develops as a community that consists of highly
competitive and productive members under the supervision of the new principal Dr.
Maria Noemi Moncada.
Philosophy
The development of the young into an intelligent, morally upright, responsible
and productive member of the society is the main focus of education. For this reason,
Lagro High School believes that every Filipino High School age youth must be given the
right to quality instruction in a compassionate and caring environment.
Vision
Lagro High School is an educational institution that produces academically
competent, morally upright and vocationally prepared citizens of the society.
Mission
To ensure the maximum intellectual, social, emotional and physical growth of the
child and strengthen moral foundations through relevant and adequate learning
experiences in a nurturing and caring school environment.

TYPES OF CAPACITORS
There are different types of capacitors, they can be:
1. Fixed are those that have fixed capacitance values.
2. Variable are capacitors that can vary the capacitance by changing
the distance between the plates or the effective area of the capacitor.
There are many different types of capacitors and they each vary in their
characteristics and each has their own advantages and disadvantages.
Practice Teaching Portfolio 2015
Types of Fixed Capacitors
1. Aluminum Capacitors
- are capacitors that are composed of two rolled
up strips of aluminum foil with a strip of absorbent
paper between them which is soaked in an
electrolyte solution- all this being sealed in a can.
Advantage: store high value of charge
Disadvantage: they have leakage rates
2. Tantalum Capacitors
- are capacitors that are made of tantalum
pentoxide.
Advantage: that they are smaller, lighter, and
more stable.
Disadvantage: they have a lower maximum
capacitance storage and lower maximum working
voltage.
3. Ceramic Capacitors
- are capacitors that are composed of materials
such as titanium acid barium as its dielectric.
Advantage: they have low inductance and are well
suited for higher-frequency applications.
4. Polyester Capacitors
- are capacitors composed of metal plates with
polyester film between them, or a metallised film is
deposited on the insulator.
5. Polypropylene Capacitors
- are capacitors that have a dielectric that is
made of polypropylene film.
Advantage: great tolerance values.
Practice Teaching Portfolio 2015
6. Polystyrene Capacitors
- are capacitors that have a dielectric made up of polystyrene.
Advantage: they have high isolation
resistance, so they are good for use in
coupling and storage applications.
Disadvantage: they are constructed like
a coil inside, so they are not suitable for
high-frequency applications.
7. Polycarbonate Capacitors
- are capacitors that have a polycarbonate
dielectric.
Advantage: they have fairly good temperature
coefficients.
Disadvantage: they have fairly high tolerance
levels.
8. Silver Mica Capacitors
- are capacitors that are made from depositing a
thin layer of silver on a mica dielectric.
Advantage: they have tolerances of 1 percent
or less.
Disadvantage: they don't come in high
capacitance values and can be expensive.
9. Paper Capacitor
- are capacitors that are made of flat thin strips of
metal foil conductors separated by a dielectric of
waxed paper.
Advantage: they are used mainly in high-voltage
equipment.
Disadvantage: they have high leakage rates.
Types of Variable Capacitors:
Air-gap capacitors
These capacitors use air as the dielectric
medium.
Practice Teaching Portfolio 2015
The distance between the plates can be varied to change the
capacitance. These are used for high frequency operations in
communication systems.
Vacuum capacitors
These capacitors have glass or ceramic encapsulation and vacuum
as the dielectric.
3. Application
Students will have an activity about the topic that has been discussed.
4. Evaluation
The students will have a short quiz about the topic that has been
discussed.

The poem I made for my very supporting teacher because I appreciate him so
much, for everything that he has done for me, for his guidance, ideas and
advices.
Ilan lang yan sa mga natutunan ko
Sa gurong kay talino
Kay kisig at kay gwapo
Millares ang apelyido.
Sa pagiging GURO siya ay dedikado
Kayat akoy saludo
Sir Norwin Millares,
Salamat po,
Salamat po
