INTRODUCTIONS

▪Supply Lists – Available on our website. Copies available for pick up today.▪Lockers (practice over the summer)▪Schedules (Available via Skyward prior to Locker Move In Day; opportunity for students to come to PKMS in August to set up lockers)

GENERAL INFORMATION

◼ Students may enter the building at 8:00 a.m.◼ Buses drop students at the North end of the building◼Walkers & Bikers may enter either front entrance or the

North entrance (with bus riders)◼ Car riders must be dropped off/picked up at the front

entrance (not in the back parking lot)◼ School day ends at 2:50 p.m.◼ Bus riders, walkers and bikers will exit the north end doors

( bikes must be walked while on school property)◼ Car riders will exit the main entrance - please do not pick

up your students at Door #26.

ARRIVING AT AND LEAVING SCHOOL

◼ Monthly Newsletter Blasts via e-mail and posted on the PKMS website

◼ You can view Dr. Haug’s Principal’s Message weekly on the PKMS website.

◼ Progress Grades- Grades regularly posted in Skyward (access grades on-line)

CLASSES

◼ Swipe card lunch system- Students are responsible for the school ID’s which are used to pay for lunch if cash is not utilized.

◼ Add money on card at school with cash or check

◼ Students may buy “extras” – salads, sandwiches, ice cream, etc.

◼ Add money using credit or debit card on-line www.myschoolbucks.com

LUNCH PROGRAM

◼ Friday, August 31st◼ Picture is used to create student ID◼ ID uses:

Some policies to know before you do any back to school clothes shopping:

◼ Dress is code is listed in the Parent/Student Handbook◼ Familiarize yourself with the dress code prior to back to school

shopping

BACK TO SCHOOL SHOPPING

◼ Students change into a uniform for class each day.◼ Uniforms will be sold in the students’ PE classes – cost is

$12.00 ($6 for shirts and $6 for shorts).◼ Same uniforms can be used for 8th grade & high school.◼ Please do not send students with money the first day!◼ Health rotation will occur throughout the year.

We compete in the North Central Junior Conference (NCJC)- DeKalb Rosette, DeKalb Huntley, Sycamore, Rochelle, Belvidere Central, Belvidere South

Common non-conference opponents include….Hampshire, Dundee, Kaneland, Yorkville, St. Charles, Geneva, Harvard, Genoa and more

Most Athletic opportunities are for 7th and 8th grade, but our conference does offer Cross Country, Wrestling and Scholastic Bowl to 6th graders!

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

◼ Registration for band and chorus is done online through the PK website. The due date is July 1st.

◼ Choir and Band meet everyday of the week. ◼ Band lessons: one pullout lesson per week on a rotation ◼ We perform three to four concerts a year that are generally in the evening.◼ This program is a year long commitment!!!◼ Spring musical auditions take place in November, open to 6th and 7th

grade.
