Almighty God, You are holy and just. Your ways are not

our ways and Your thoughts are not our thoughts. We confess

that it is because we do not take the time to get to know You as

You are that we do not trust You as we ought. We forget that we

were created and saved that we might know You and love You

and serve You as Your obedient sons and daughters. But we do

not take advantage of the opportunities we have to open our

hearts to You in the study of Your word and in prayer, and as a

result we fail to see Your loving purposes in all that comes our

way. Please forgive us. Give us hearts to know that we are loved

and precious in Your sight. Open our eyes that we may see You

as You have revealed Yourself to us in Your Son, and in that

knowledge help us to embrace Your sovereign will for our lives;

through Christ our Lord. Amen.

GOD’S WORD READ AND PROCLAIMED______________

Scripture Job 38: 1-41 (page 532-533) Sermon “He Said What?”

*Affirmation of Faith The Heidelberg Catechism

Pastor: What is your only comfort in life and in death?

People: That I belong, body and soul, in life and in death, not to

myself, but to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ. He has fully paid

for all my sins by His precious blood and has set me from the

tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that

not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in

heaven; in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.

Because I belong to Him, Christ by His Holy Spirit, assures me

of eternal life, and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready

from now on to live for Him. Amen. GO IN GOD’S NAME_________________________________

We’ve gathered here this morning to worship the Lord and to hear what God would say to us. Poor, suffering Job longed to hear a word from the Lord, but when it came it was hardly what Job had expected. And yet it was exactly what Job needed to hear if he was to become the person God intended for him to be. It is a dangerous thing to put our words into God’s mouth. Better to let the Lord put the Word of God into our hearts. That is what worship is all about. Be listening for God’s special Word to you this morning. – Pastor Bob
