FUEL CONTROL UNIT (FCU) - DISASSEMBLY
1. General
A. The FCU is removed from the engine complete with elbows and connector for the fuelpressure and pneumatic lines (Ref. 72-00-00, DISASSEMBLY). Connectors for the fuelinlet and delivery lines are part of the FCU and remain installed. Elbows and connectorfor fuel bypass line, P3 and Py air pressure lines are installation items and are overhauledseparately from the FCU.
B. Disassembly and all other relevant overhaul procedures for the FCU on PT6A-27/-28Engines and PT6A-21 Engines are described in the Bendix Avelex (VO7213)Accessories Overhaul Manual with Parts List 73-20-15 or 73-20-TBA, as applicable.
C. Removal and installation of the FCU from engine is described in Chapter 72-00-00.

5. Disassembly
A. Removal of Fuel Bypass, P3 and Py Line Connectors (Ref. Fig. 101)
(1) Note angular position of elbows and connector (2, 16 and 24), (as applicable) toobtain correct alignment of parts during assembly. Do not remove metering plugfrom elbow (16).
(2) Loosen jam nuts (3 and 17) and remove elbows (2 and 16) from FCU. Discardbackup rings (4 and 18) and preformed packings (5 and 19).
(3) Unlock and remove nut (26) and backup ring (25). Withdraw connector (24) fromfluid passage bolt (23).
(4) Unscrew bolt (23) from FCU. Discard preformed packings (22, 27 and 28), andbackup ring (25).
(5) Install protective plugs in open orifices of FCU.
B. Removal of FCU Control Arm (Ref. Fig. 101)
(1) Unlock and remove fuel control arm extension (12). Note angle of the control arm(11), then remove control arm and serrated spacer (10).

(2) To prevent damage to threads of FCU control shaft during transit, install shippingitems, spacer (13) and castellated nut (14). Secure nut with split cotterpin (15).

A. Elbows, Connector and Fluid Passage Bolt (2, 16, 23 and 24, Fig. 301)
(1) Inspect threads, lockwire holes and conical seat surfaces for damage. Replacedefective items with new or serviceable parts.
(2) Check passages are clean and free from foreign matter.
(3) Check metering plug of elbow (16) for cleanliess and security of staking.
(4) Check internal diameter of connector (24) and external diameter of bolt (23) matingsurfaces (REF. NO 517, Table 601).
B. FCU-to-Fuel Pump Coupling (8, Fig. 301)
(1) Replace non-metallic coupling with new part.
C. Serrated Spacer (10, Fig. 301)
(1) Inspect serrations for damage or wear.
(2) Blend out minor surface damage; reject if serrations are worn and replace with newspacer.
D. Control Arm and Extension (11 and 12, Fig. 301)
(1) Examine for cracks, wear, or distortion.

(2) Inspect serrations, threaded and pivot holes for damage or wear. Blend out minorsurface damage.
(3) Reject if wear is excessive, or serrations or threads are damaged and replace withnew part.
(4) Check dimension of interconnect rod pivot holes in control arm (REF. NO. 405,Table 601).

A. Installation of Py, P3 and, if applicable, Fuel Bypass Line Connectors in FCU (Ref. Fig.501)
(1) Remove shipping plugs from Py and P3 line orifices and, if applicable, from fuelbypass orifice in overhauled FCU.
(2) Assemble jam nuts (3) and (17) on elbows (2) and (16), followed by backup rings(4) and (18), and preformed packings (5) and (19).
CAUTION: DO NOT MIX ELBOW (2) AND METERED ELBOW (16).
(3) Screw elbows into Py and P3 orifices in FCU; position at angles noted at disassembly.
(4) Torque nuts (3 and 17) 38 to 42 lb.in. Do not wirelock at this stage.
(5) If applicable, complete the assembly as follows:
(a) Assemble preformed packing (22) on fluid passage bolt (23). Screw bolt intoFCU fuel orifice and torque 38 to 42 lb.in.
(b) Assemble preformed packing (28), connector (24), preformed packing (27),backup ring (25) and jam nut (26) on installed bolt (23).
(c) Position connector (24) at angle noted at disassembly and hold bolt (23) withspanner to prevent turning and torque nut (26) 38, to 42 lb.in. Do not wirelockat his stage.
NOTE: Wirelocking of elbows and connector will be implemented duringassembly of FCU to the engine (Ref. 72-00-00, FINAL ASSEMBLY).

B. Installation of Control Arm and Extension on FCU.
(1) Remove cotterpin (15), nut (14) and spacer (13), (shipping items) from FCU controlshaft.
NOTE: If fuel control unit has been returned from a maintenance facility for lightoverhaul, shipping items must remain on FCU.
(2) Engage serrations of spacer (10) with those of control arm (11), and position armand spacer on FCU control shaft as noted during disassembly.
(3) Temporarily install control arm extension (12).
NOTE: Final positioning and adjustment of control arm and spacer, andwirelocking, is implemented when FCU is installed on engine (Ref.72-00-00, FINAL ASSEMBLY).

(1) Install shipping covers on ends of connectors of FCU.
(2) Enclose fuel control arm, spacer, control arm extension, elbows, new preformedpackings, backup ring, nuts and washers in sealable plastic bags.
(3) Retain sealed plastic bags with fuel control unit in suitable protective carton.
(4) Attach identification label bearing part number of contents, engine model and serialnumbers, and date of storage.
(5) Store in a cool, dry place.
