Feb. 24-25 Second Sunday of LentThis Sunday we are challenged by this question: Are we willing to make the whole journey through temptation, suffering, death and resurrection as participants with Christ or will we become observers only? Being a disciple of Jesus involves risk. It might mean we have to leave the comfort and security of “home” to go to a new place of God’s choosing. This Sunday’s readings ask us to realize that the Christian journey is one of risk, suffering and death, but one that ends in glory for those who walk with Christ. Are you willing to take the risk?
Febrero 24-25 Segundo Domingo de CuaresmaEste domingo somos desafiados por esta pregunta: ¿Estamos dispuestos a realizar todo el viaje a través de la tentación, el sufrimiento, la muerte y la resurrección como participantes con Cristo o nos convertiremos en observadores solamente? Ser un discípulo de Jesús involucra riesgo. Puede significar que tenemos que dejar la comodidad, la seguridad del “hogar” para ir a un lugar nuevo que Dios escoja. Las lecturas de este domingo nos piden darnos cuenta de que el viaje Cristiano trae riesgos, sufrimiento y muerte, pero termina con la gloria para aquellos que caminan con Cristo ¿Está usted dispuesto a correr ese riesgo?

LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR/CARTA DE NUESTRO PARROCO
Dear parishioners,Our Lenten Penance Service is scheduled for this
week, Thursday evening in the church beginning at 7:00. Area priests will be present to assist with Confessions, the Sacrament of Penance.
At times our lives can become so busy that we focus our attention on the urgent matters of work, the care of our home and family life. At the same time, our Spiritual Life needs our attention; our desire to live a holy life. If we give time to the Sacrament of Penance then all of the urgent matters of our life will come into focus and we will be able to live a holy life, confident in the strength of the graces, which are given to us through the Sacraments.
The Sacrament of Penance has three levels. When all of these levels are met, Confession reaches its fullest effect in the soul. The three levels are contrition, confession and satisfaction. Of these three levels, contrition is the most important.
Contrition is sorrow for sins and is absolutely necessary to obtain God’s forgiveness. Sorrow for sin is most effective when it comes from our pure love of Him who is so good and who has suffered so much for our redemption. If this perfect contrition is to reach its highest level, it must be accompanied by the intention to avoid sin and to repair the harm personal sin has done and the willingness to participate in the Sacrament of Penance.
The actual Confession is the practice of saying our sins. When we do so, it is important that the telling of our sins to a priest is first of all, humble, then sincere and finally entire. Any attempt to justify personal sins by complaining about the actions of others (drama) is to contaminate the Confession.
Satisfaction is the performance of the penance given by the priest. The purpose of the penance is to make amends even if in a very simple way. If the penance is carried out with simplicity and humility it is very effective. If you receive an extremely difficult penance from a priest in Confession, you may ask for a simpler penance and the priest is obliged to grant your request.
You may effectively augment the penance you receive by prayer, participation in Holy Mass, fasting, almsgiving, the spiritual and corporal works of mercy, the patient endurance of sufferings and sickness and indulgences.
Pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary under her title of the Immaculate Conception. She, who was conceived without original sin will come to your aid and help you to live a holy life.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

jueves por la tarde en la iglesia, empezando a las 7:00 p.m. Tendremos sacerdotes del área para asistir con las Confesiones, el Sacramento de la Penitencia.
A menudo nuestras vidas están tan ocupadas que solo enfocamos nuestra atención en los asuntos urgentes del trabajo, el cuidado de nuestro hogar y vida familiar. Al mismo tiempo, nuestra vida Espiritual necesita de nuestra atención; nuestro deseo de vivir una vida santa. Si tomamos tiempo para el Sacramento de Penitencia entonces todos los asuntos urgentes de nuestras vidas se enfocarán y podremos vivir una vida santa, seguros de la potencia de la gracia, cual se nos otorga por medio de los Sacramentos.
El Sacramento de Penitencia tiene tres niveles. Cuando se cumplen todos los niveles, la Confesión alcanza un efecto más completo en nuestra alma. Los tres niveles son: contrición, confesión y satisfacción. De estos tres niveles, la contrición es la más importante.
La contrición es el arrepentimiento por nuestros pecados y es absolutamente necesario para obtener el perdón de Dios. El arrepentimiento por nuestros pecados es más efectivo cuando proviene del amor puro hacia Él, quien es piadoso y quien ha sufrido por nuestra redención. Para que la contrición perfecta llegue al nivel más alto, debe de ir acompañada por la intención de desistir el pecado y de reparar el daño que el pecado personal haya causado y la disposición de participar en el Sacramento de Penitencia.
La Confesión es la práctica de decir nuestros pecados. Cuando lo hacemos, es importante que, al decir nuestros pecados al sacerdote, sea primero: humildemente, luego sincera y completamente. Cualquier intento de justificar nuestros pecados quejándonos de las acciones de otros (drama) solo contamina la Confesión.
La satisfacción proviene del cumplimiento de la penitencia que el sacerdote nos da. El propósito de la penitencia es la de enmendar aun de la más simple manera. La penitencia es más efectiva si se cumple de una manera simple y con humildad. Si recibimos una penitencia extremadamente difícil de un sacerdote en la Confesión, la persona puede pedir una penitencia más simple, y el sacerdote está obligado a conceder la petición.
Uno puede aumentar efectivamente la penitencia que recibimos con oración, participación en la Santa Misa, ayunando, siendo caritativos, sosteniendo las obras corporales y espirituales de Misericordia, en la paciente resistencia de nuestros sufrimientos y enfermedades e indulgencias.
Orar a la Santísima Virgen Maria bajo su título de la Inmaculada Concepción. Ella, quien fue concebida sin pecado original vendrá a socorrernos, ayudándonos a vivir una vida santa.
Santa Maria, Madre de Dios, ruega por nosotros, pecadores, ahora y en la hora de nuestra muerte. Amen.

Are you wanting to learn more about our faith?
Are you just sitting in your car waiting for your kids to get out of religious education classes? Take that leap of faith because we have something for you. Classes will be offered on Wednesday evenings at 6:45 p.m. in English with Anna Lara in the Knights of Columbus room (PAC301) and in Spanish with Art Lara in room 208 in the Education building.
On Sundays, we will have a Spanish session at 9:45 a.m. in room 208 of the Education Building.
This is open to everyone come join us for this year’s Adult Faith For-mation Program. Classes will follow the RE calendar for the year. For more information please contact the RE Office.
