Built-In Obsolescence!

Do you remember how you felt when you learned machines (cars, appliances, etc.) are intentionally built to break down?! After spending hard earned money you discover that in just a few years you will need to spend even more money to replace it – SHEESH!

This, however, should not surprise us. For not only is this true of man-made things, but it’s also true of man himself. Solomon, wrote, “There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven – a time to give birth, and a time to die,” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2).

Yet knowing this about ourselves (and others) does not make our ultimate demise easier, especially when death comes unexpectedly. We ask, “Why did God cause my [child, parent, spouse, friend, etc.] to die?” It never seems “fair”! While we know God created us to be mortal, we may wonder, “Why NOW?!”

Sometimes the answer is people die because of their choices. We know that if we keep our tires until they are bald, they may go flat. And if we leave our car lights on, the battery will die. This is not obsolescence – but choices. Some choices that typically reduce a person’s lifespan include; smoking, drinking alcohol to excess, mountain climbing or base jumping, etc. Choices!

People also may die because of the choices of others. Drivers who are

DWI, criminals/terrorists who are bent on killing, etc., all can cause death “before someone’s time.” But if we make wise lifestyle choices, and strive to be aware of our surroundings, we may extend our personal life-expectancy. Yet eventually, unless Jesus comes first, we will all die. Knowing this, our best choice is to live in such a way we never have reason to fear death! See 2 Corinthians 5:10; 2 Peter 3:10-13;

Revelation 20:15! Rick Walker

Current Events & Activities:

Teach Them Well

The philosopher Aristotle once wrote “those who educate children well are more to be honored than those who produce them; for these only gave them life, those the art of living well.” In Matthew 5:19, “Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven” The scripture give us great insight on the importance of being a teacher. By searching the scriptures we can discover what God expects of a teacher and the Biblical mandates on how the teacher should perform their task. Scriptures like Titus 2:3-5 tell us that “older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior: not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and to train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled”. The church needs workers in many different fields. We all have a gift from God. Whether it is singing, preaching, personal work, or teaching. As Christians, we must give God our talents. By being a teacher, you can instill in your students the wisdom of the Lord as given to us in the Bible. The old saying goes that “knowledge is power” and “God’s word is powerful”. As God tells us in Matthew 28:20, “Teach them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the ages”. This scripture gives us confidence that God is in control and will be with us in all our endeavors. Please join the Meadows Teaching Team as we dig into the scriptures. Have confidence in knowing that God is in that classroom right beside you. Make a difference in educating the Meadows children about the Bible. Teach them well! Carl Sundgren
