ObstaclesObstacles

The Journey

• The Gemara speaks of four areas that need strengthening;– Torah– Good Deeds– Prayer– Ones Worldy Occupation

The Evil Inclination

• The Malbim explains that the Evil Inclination fights against spiritual endeavors on two fronts;– It discourages one from starting and then– It impedes ones progress once embarked– Romans 7:14-25

DISTRACTIONS-DISTRACTIONS-DISTRACTIONS

The Immeasurable Power of Prayer

1. A Sword, A Shield,a Well SpringA. The Torah teaches that we should pray

during troubles times.

Samuel – 1 Samuel 7:1-5Jacob – Genesis 32: 1-12Nehemiah – Nehemiah 1:5-11

The Immeasurable Power of Prayer

B. Failing to pray for G-d’s help reflects a lack of belief in His supervision and His power.

C. One Should not feel that it is futile for him to pray because he lacks merit. G-d answers prayers out of His kindness, not the petitioners worthiness.Romans 5:1-8 – It is Yeshua Who has made us worthy

Arousing The Heart

• Difficulties are designed to spur us to pray

• G-d wants us to pray so that He can answer our prayers with good.

The Primal Force

• Prayer is an innate part of creation whose function is to draw G-d’s goodness into the world. Matthew 6:9-13

• Every answered prayer is a “natural” phenomenon rather then a miracle. – Psalm 4:1The World was in a barren state of

preparedness until Adam prayed for rain

The Ultimate Weapon• For the Jew Tefillah is that weapon• Elsewhere the Gemera describes

Torah learning as the Key to eternal life (because it leads us to Messiah-Yeshua) and Tefillah as the Key to our temporal life. Just as Torah study can bring a person to enjoy an eternal happiness in the world to come, prayer can provide all the necessities of this world, such as good health, a livlihood, peace of mind, and spiritual growth.

The Ultimate Weapon

• Prayer is recognized throughout Jewish history as the most potent means to overcome adversity.

• Our Patriarchs prayer for help when faced with the prospect of not having children– Chana - 1 Samuel 1: 7 ff– Rebekkah –Genesis 25:20-21

The Ultimate Weapon• Moshe turned to prayer to bring

forgivenss for the grave sin of the Golden Calf and the sin committed by the spies– Exodus 32: 11-14– Numbers 14: 11-20Although Tefillah is just one of many

mitvos, it is unparaeled in it power to bring goodness and salvationJames 5: 13-18, 1 John 5: 14-15, Hebrews 10:35

Opening Heavens Gates

• In accessing the treasures stored for us in Heaven, Tefillah is the key. Even though the treasures are there and they are being held in store for each of us, they do not automatically flow into our lives. They remain locked in Heaven until we pray

Opening Heavens Gates

• That piercing remorse is the lot of one who does not believe in and utilize the power of prayer.

• Rav Pam “Those people will be shown how their prayers could have made a difference had they been said with heart felt concentration. The sick person could have been healed, the childless couple could have been answered, the person looking for a spouse could have found one”

• Exodus 2:24-25

Opening Heavens Gates

• Tefillah along with repentance will be the catalyst that sets in motion the Final Redemption as well.

• Prayer is the natural cause of every effect in this world. Just as rain cause flowers to grow, so does prayer cause G-d to grant us His blessings

Opening Heavens Gates

• It is the Key to all wordly good fortune. Incredibly G-d has entrusted us with the key to His storehouse, He waits only for us to us it.– Even rewards destined for us will not

come to us unless we pray for them-James 1:1-8

– Just as the redemption from Egypt was predicated upon the Hebrews prayers so is the Final Redemption

Opening Heavens Gates

• In giving us the ability to pray, G-d has given us the key to His storehouse of blessings– Matthew 7:7-12– Matthew 21: 21-22– Mark 11:23-25– James 1:5-6– Matthew 18:18-20

HaShem Alone

• Banging Down The Doors Of Heaven– Matthew 11: 1-13– When one know with all his heart that

the solution for his desperate situation resides within one particular person, he will call, write, or bang down the door if necessary to solicit help for his plight. The ardent nature of his entreaties reflects his belief that this is his only avenue of salvation

HaShem Alone

• The Torah tells of numerous individuals whose deep faith that HaShem was their only source to keep and bring them to “Bang Down The Doors of Heaven”

• The Torah not only instructs us to pray-it shows us by example how to make our prayers a true instrument of salvation

HaSham/The Name Yeshua

• Hashem has brough miraculous help to people who have turned to Him in time of need

• Effective prayer is predicated on the belief that HaShem is one’s only source of help

• We are to pray to the Father/Alvino Melkinu Our Father, Our King in The Name of Yeshua

• John 14:13-14, 15:16, 16:23-24

HaShem Alone

• Even an ordinary person can pray with complete faith and thereby arouse G-d’s mercy– Habakuk 2:4 James 1:6– Matthew 17:20James 5:15– Romans 5:1– 11 Cor 5:7– 1 Thess 5:8

Faith In His Name

• Hebrew- Faith is Emunah A noun meaning truth, faithfulness. It is used to describe G-d’s character and His actions– Deut 32:4– Psalm 33:4– Psalm 100:5– Psalm 119:90

HaShem Alone

• When people are faithful good comes their way– Deuteronomy 28:1-10– Psalm 1:1– Psalm 31:23– Provebers 28:20– Luke 16:10
