scale model
Pre-Algebra
7-8 Scale Models
Very large and very small objects are often modeled. A scale model is a three-dimensional model that accurately represents a solid object. The scale model is mathematically similar to the solid object.
A scale gives the ratio of the dimensions of the model to the actual dimensions.

Tell whether each scale reduces, enlarges, or preserves the size of the actual object.
A. 1 in:1 yd
Additional Example 1A: Analyzing and Classifying Scale Factors
1 in.1 yd
= 1 in.36 in.
= Convert: 1 yd = 36 in. Simplify.
The scale reduces the size of the actual object by a
factor of . 136
