PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

WG Engineering Pre-Cast Pole Footings are designed for use with street lighting, traffic

lights, signs and other poles. The footings improve strength and reliability while reducing

corrosion and maintenance to ensure safe, reliable and low cost infrastructure for whole of

life.

JUSTIFICATION AND BENEFITS

Our Pre-Cast Concrete Pole Footings offer the following benefits over many in situ methods:

Reliable and Safe

Pre-cast Pole footings are a durable, engineered product designed and constructed to meet

axial, shear, torsional and bending moment loads to reduce risk of injury and ensure reliable

and safe pole structures in all environments. Simple lifting, levelling and rotation tools and

techniques ensure accurate installation in a safe and manageable work environment.

Installation can be planned to coincide with electrical trades and civil work as required.

Low Cost

Pre-cast footings lower overall costs from design right through to installation and whole of

life. In contrast to traditional on-site concreting and form work, pre-cast footings minimize on

site movements, manual handling, wasted materials, traffic management, time exposure and

overall risk. They can be manufactured off site, well in advance of installation, ready for

transport directly to the job site. Upon arrival, the product is placed into pre-drilled holes,

ready to accept pole installation without waiting for installation of form work, reinforcing,

concrete and curing time.

Reduces Corrosion

Providing pole elevation above ground minimizes water and ground materials contacting the

base of poles to reduce corrosion. This will increase the life of poles and greatly reduce

maintenance cost such as corrosion treatment and/or pole replacement. The product can

also be used in differing soil types and can be easily mowed, snipped and cleaned around

without damaging pole finish/corrosion protection.

Low Maintenance

Visual inspection can be conducted with ease to assure integrity and condition for remnant

life of poles and their footings. Grouting can be eliminated and galvanic pole/stud protection

provided. The product can also be easily removed and re-used or re-positioned if required,

greatly reducing whole of life maintenance cost.

Improves Beautification

Pre-cast pole footings can be a beautiful feature adding aesthetic value to match or contrast

their surrounding environment. The footings are available in natural concrete finish or

rendered to suit their environment.

Example A:

Installation of large poles in contact with ground indicate corrosion. Re-work has been required to

replace pole footing, however, some of the same problems have been replicated. This example would

benefit from pre-cast footings which raise poles above ground level.

Example B:

This style of installation shows visible corrosion at the flange and fastenings at ground level. Steel poles

directly into garden beds cause corrosion. Pre-cast footings would benefit this design and can be easily

altered to suit the any shaped pole.

EXAMPLES FOR IMPROVEMENT

The following are a selection of observed Pole Installations that are not recommended.

WG Engineering offers Pre-Cast Pole Footings to improve the following examples:

13/09/2016 WG Engineering – ABN 82320930310 Page 5/9

Example E:

In this pole installation, elevating pole above

ground level would reduce corrosion rate of

the pole.

Example C:

These smaller post installations show corrosion due to ground level contact. Reduction of flange plate

size and raising poles using pre-cast footings would reduce deflection and corrosion.

Example D:

In this installation, concrete footing cannot

be visually inspected. Tar has been applied in

an attempt to stop corrosion but actual

condition of flange and fastening is

unknown. Pole Footing is also below road

level, subject to water ingress.

Example F:

The footing of these pole installations are relatively new but are in direct contact with the ground or below

ground level. This will contribute to corrosion as they are continuously exposed to ground materials and

garden maintenance. They would greatly benefit from raised pre-cast pole footings to reduce corrosion and

allow for simple visual inspection.

VARIABLE OPTION FOR POOR SOIL

WG Engineering also provides pre-cast footings for use in poor soil conditions. This option

includes a reinforcing cage with pre-cast top which controls bolt pattern and loose top soil to

simplify installation and quality control on site. It also comes supplied with flexible electrical

conduits that can be pulled through reinforcing bars and positioned to suit the orientation

and depth of cable trenches. Above ground height, footing height, concrete height and

conduit length/diameter can be set by the customer prior to manufacture.

OUR OFFER

WG Engineering provides the design and manufacture of pre-cast pole footings. We

currently work in collaboration with other professionals, manufacturers and tradespeople in a

multi-discipline environment to reach a complete solution with benefit to all parties involved.

As part of the process, we offer all or some of the following services for this product:

1. An initial survey and reporting service to document the current state of pole and

post assets with a risk based approach to prioritise work as required.

2. Determination of pole axial, shear, torsion and bending moment loads for the

design.

3. Quality engineered design and information provided to your asset management

system so that you are informed of the design before proceeding.

4. Planned manufacture, delivery and installation of pre-cast pole footings using

appropriate equipment to assure safety.

Designs will be verified by a Civil Engineer and agreed with the customer prior to
