India's biotech sector has attracted significant amount of attention over the past two decades. The
maximum benefits of biotechnology have been utilized by health care. A few developing countries like
India have scientists and technologists related to biotechnology where national strategies of
development in biotechnology is implemented. The scientific and technical manpower is shifting towards
biotechnology with the aim to produce expertise in biotechnology.

VITAMIN B12
Process Description:
Formulation of Media: Formulation is done with Cobalt Salt along with Carbon and Nitrogen Sources.
Sterilization: The prepared media is then sterilized by using an Autoclave.
Starter Culture: Propionibacterium shermani will be the microorganism used.
Fermentation: Fermentation is done by both Anaerobic and Aerobic process.
Treatment: During this treatment precursors of pseudovitaminB12 are released free. After this, it is treated
with Cyanide solution to split the DBC and pseudo-vitamin B12. As a result, Cyanocobalamin (Vita B12) is
released free in the solution.
Recovery: Cyanocobalamin in the liquid is separated by using an adsorption column chromatography
with IRC-50 resin. The adsorbed Cyanocobalamin is then eluted out of the column using Phenolic solvent.
Powder Processing: It is sent to the Dryer which can be Tray Dryer/ VFD/Spray Dryer according to the
requirement. After drying, it is sent to the Multimill/ Micronizer. It is finally sent to the Shifter and then the
final product is stored in Storage bins and later packed.

EMZYME
Process Description:
Source: Choosing a source means choosing the microorganism required for production of the specific enzyme. Optimization: Optimization means finding highest specific synthesis rate for a given amount of biomass. As, enzyme synthesis depends on primary metabolism, conditions favoring enzyme synthesis favor growth. Thus, conditions favoring growth and the relationship between growth rate and enzyme synthesis rate is determined. Fermentation: Fermentation is solid surface type. Wheat bran, whose high content of nutrients includes minerals and salts is used as media for production of amylase, protease, and lipase from Aspergillus and Mucor species, as well as for pectinase and cellulase from Aspergillus and Penicillium species. Tray Process: Substrate is spread in a thin layer in incubation rooms. After cultivation of fungi with spores, the mycelia are extracted with water or salt solution in countercurrent mode, and the concentrated enzyme solution is precipitated.

3.7 Resource optimization/recycling and reuse envisaged in the project:
ZLD is proposed for industrial effluent (11 KLD) and recovered waster used for utility make-up and
washing consumption. Make up of scrubber is done by WTP RO reject
100 kg/month spent phenolic solvent will be generated and 95 kg/month will be recovered and will be
reused in process. Phenolic solvent recovery process is by Two Phase Batch Reaction. A steam stripping
process is proposed. This solution allows water from the steam to act as a barrier liquid between the
solvent and bio-polymer during separation, preventing the formation of a hardened plug.
