Motiva™ from CorusMotiva™ from Corus is a range of pre-finished steel products specificallydeveloped for the domestic appliancemarket and widely used for the followingapplications: wrap-arounds, tops, doorsand side panels for washing machines,refrigerators, dishwashers, tumble driers, freezers and microwave ovens. In addition, our recent innovation in non-stick technology means that we cannow offer a product for oven interiors.

Pre-finished steelPre-finished steel offers design flexibility and value in use, combining the strength and longevity of oursubstrates with the aesthetics and functionality of the coating.

Pre-finished steel can be pressed, roll formed, drawn or notched without affecting the performanceor finish of the product.

Pre-finished steel is a steel strip product with anumber of paint layers and treatments applied in a highly automated and carefully controlledenvironment. There are three generic pre-finishedproduct types: paint, co-laminate & laminate.

Motiva™ product selectorWe recognise the critical importance of both the surfacefinish and performance in domestic appliances and soour Motiva™ products are customised for aestheticappeal, stain and mar resistance and durability.

The Motiva™ range from Corus hasproducts to suit all gloss, tactility andtexture preferences and we work togetherwith you to tailor the product to exactingspecifications. Motiva™ coating properties

Paint a two-coat polyester paint system designed to meet customer requirements.

Co-laminate a three-coat system of paint and PET Film.Available in an extensive range of colours and patterns and provides a high gloss finish with excellent stain and scratch resistance.

Laminate using a PVC film allowing a wealth of patterns, textures and colours. It has good scratch resistance, excellent durability and colour consistency.

Performance

Motiva™

Performance and durabilityThe Motiva™ range of products fromCorus are designed to meet the technicalrequirements of end applications in terms of flexibility, stain and corrosionresistance, surface hardness, resistanceto detergents and scratches.

Our products are suitable for indirectcontact with food and are stable tointernal levels of light.

The Motiva™ product range is available in a wide rangeof colours, with solid or metallic effects as well asbespoke finishes tailored to individual needs.

Corrosion performance Modern primers have enhanced corrosioninhibitors incorporating the latest chrome-free technology ensuring they are RoHScompliant.

As a result of our advancing technologyon modern primers, the use of CR hasbeen facilitated on applications previouslyonly achievable on HDG. For moreinformation please contact us.

Cut edgesThe high technology coating layersprevent corrosion spread under thecoating. In salt spray and humidity testingno more than 2 mm of creep will occur in the time stated in the performancestatement for that coating. Our designersmanual (Design Solutions) providesadvice on how to ensure cut edges are not exposed or in view.

Forming and processingPre-finished steel can be formed andprocessed using the same techniques as post painted materials with no changeto the appearance. Techniques include:cutting, shearing, notching, piercing,slitting, press braking, folding, rollforming, spinning and deep drawing. Forinformation on these techniques pleaserefer to our Design Solutions manual orcontact us.

Cleaning and maintenanceThe following general guidelines apply forpre-finished steel but for more informationon specific products please contact us:

• All our pre-finished steel products can be cleaned with commercially available,water based cleaning products.

• The use of abrasive cleaners or scouring pads are not recommended.

• It is recommended that an alcohol based cleaner is used periodically on Motiva™ G.

• All our pre-finished steel products havegood resistance to heat, detergents and other household substances such as foodstuffs, shoe polish and lipstick, which can stain ordinary paint finishes.

EnvironmentalPre-finished steel has long beenrecognised as a sustainable approach to painted metal applications. With over30 years of experience in this process,Corus is best able to take advantage ofthe minimised wastage and emissionsassociated with the quality-controlledprocess used in the manufacture of pre-finished steel.

We hold ISO14001 certification. However,we actively develop our products andprocesses to reduce their environmentalimpact to a level beyond just compliance.

As steel is 100% recyclable it means thatat the end-of-life it can be recycled backinto new steel products without anycompromise in quality. Corus can helpcustomers in their eco-design efforts tocomply with the EuP directive. Forexample, a life cycle analysis could beundertaken for different stages of acomponent's life cycle and identify areasfor reducing the product’s environmentalimpact.

Corus Prototyping CentreOur prototyping facilities offer a free andconfidential service and have been usedto assist companies in converting theirprocesses from post paint to using pre-finished metals.
