Dear Students & Guests:
We could not be more excited for you to join Chadron State
College and the Eagle family!
Making the transition to college can be inti
midating and we want
you to know that we are here to help you through every step o
f
this process. Our goal is for you to be an Eagle
in everything you
do and we plan to provide you the resources to do so. We hope the
information provided here will serve as a guide to prepare you for
New Student Orientation (NSO) and officially joining the Nest.
First, you should know that you are receiving this pre-orientat
ion
guide because you are registered to attend New Student Orientation
(when you completed the Ready to Register form via your MyCSC To
Do List, you also registered for NSO). More information about NSO,
including the schedule of events, will be sent to yo
u via mail in
July. We also send information via EagleMail, so remember to check
your account frequently.
Throughout New Student Orientation you will have the oppo
rtunity
to interact with current Chadron State students, faculty and staff
and alumni who will serve as your guides, friends and mentors
during your time at the Nest. During the sessions
and activities
planned, we will address any questions and/or concerns yo
u may
have, so you begin your first semester as an Eagle on the right fo
ot
(or wing!). In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact the
START Office if you have questions prior to the eve
nt.
Over the summer we encourage you to take some time to get to
know other new Eagles joining the Nest this fall via the CSC Class
of 2019 Facebook page. Connecting with campus and your peers
early will help you feel more at home when you arrive in the fall.
From one Eagle to another, I want to officially welcome you to
Eagle Country. We look forward to seeing you this fall!

MAKING CENT$ OUT OF PAYING FOR COLLEGEStudents have many options to pay for college—scholarships, federal student id, paying out pocket or other various assistance programs.
It is important that you understand your unique financial aid situation and how that translates into paying your Eagle bill.
ScholarshipsStudents can receive scholarships through Chadron State College and outside donors. You can view any scholarships you may have been awarded from Chadron State in your MyCSC Account.
If you have received scholarship from a donor outside of CSC you MUST report those awards to Chadron State. You will report any outside scholarship awards using the form found here: csc.edu/start/finaid/scholarships/outside/form
Once you have reported your outside awards, those will also appear in your Award Summary in your MyCSC account.
Federal Financial AidIf you wish to apply for federal grants, loans and/or work-study, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSA can be completed at fafsa.ed.gov. We ask that you have your FAFSA sent to Chadron State College, along with any additional documents we may require for verification, by our priority deadline of June 1st.
If you have already completed your FAFSA, it is crucial that you check your To Do list in the event we require additional documentation from you. If we are requesting items like a Tax Return Transcript, W-2 form, household worksheet or other verification documents, your FAFSA is on hold and you will not be awarded federal aid until those documents are submitted and processed.
Once you have submitted your FAFSA and any necessary verification documents as requested, you will be awarded federal aid based on Chadron State’s Cost of Attendance (COA), your Estimated Family Contribution and your need.
Cost of Attendance (COA) is NOT your bill. This is a number that we use to determine your federal aid eligibility based on estimates of what it could cost to be a college student at CSC. COA includes estimated costs for tuition, fees, room and board, and estimated costs for books and supplies, personal expenses and travel.
Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) is calculated based on the income information provided on the FAFSA, along with the number of people in your household.
Your need is calculated by subtracting your EFC from your COA. Need-based aid like Pell Grants,
Freshmen Dress Up Act -1950
Supplemental Grants, Subsidized Direct Loans and Federal Work-Study is awarded based on your need.
For more information about Federal Student Aid, visit studentaid.gov .
Chadron State will post your Eagle Bill to your MyCSC account, under the Accounts tab, about a month prior to the start of each term or session. We only bill by semester, so keep in mind when looking at your fall bill, to anticipate another bill for the spring.
Any CSC tuition waivers you have received will be applied to the initial bill. Federal Financial Aid (grants and/ or loans) will not post to the balance until after the add/drop period has expired. Other awards such as outside scholarships will be applied as they are received. It is important to keep an eye on your Account Activity to see what has posted to the account.
REMEMBER: while you may qualify for federal aid and/or scholarships, this does not guarantee your balance will be fully covered by those awards. You must have a plan of action to pay any remaining balance by the payment deadline to avoid a late fee, or worse . . . . being dropped from future courses and stopped from further enrollment.
If you wish to set-up a payment plan to address your balance, you need to contact the Business Office. Payments can be made via your MyCSC account, by calling the Business Office, or by mail.
Eagle Bill Worksheet: Estimated Costs for Fall 2015 Semester Please reference the work-sheet below for an example of how to determine what your bill might look like. To find the Estimated Costs for tuition, fees, room and board, visit csc.edu/businessoffice
When you do your own calculations, you might find that your bill is fully covered and you could even have money left over. Any excess funds will be issued to the student either as a refund check, or the student can sign up for direct deposit.
