Since my partner, Georgia, and I are both into Indie Pop music, we decided to choose a song from one of these band.

We then later decided on a song called BRIDGES by BROODS.•Brood’s song is not too long or too short.

•Bridges is only 3 minutes and 10 seconds long.

• It is a perfect song to do as its pace is not too fast yet not too slow.

•We understand completely the meaning of the song and what the song is trying to portray.

The song is basically talking about a relationship.

- So we first have to worked out what the lyrics actually means, especially the word ‘ Bridges’.

Brainstorm:

Lyrics :Meaning

Bridges represents the connection/relationship between 2 person.

-Destruction

-Bold action, meaning the final important decision has been made.

-Burning means nothing can be

saved

-specific moment

-request to do it now and not delaying it

-Not looking back at the past

Brainstorm:‘burning bridges’:The whole phrase can mean total commitment.

Burn the bridges to prove that you will never go back or look back.

Burning the bridges means total wreck of a relationship. Cutting off all the connection between each other.

Outline of idea:Now we have fully understood the meaning of the song, we have come up with a narrative to help portraying the meaning of the song to the audience.

-Friendship:

Portraying the relationship have been building up since they are little.

Suggesting their relationship ‘bridge’ have been building up ever since,

Eventually, they fall apart and decided to go to a different path.

Rather than being sad and caught up in the past, one of them will decided to break all their connection with each other. – Burning the Bridges’

CODES & CONVENTIONS OF INDIE POP music video:

Settings:Indie pop music videos are known to be low-budget.

Main settings are in studios, cities, parks, woods etc, These location creates mysteries, which makes the audience focus more on the performance.

Performance:Most Indie Pop music videos include a live performance form the artist which makes the audience focus on the talent that the artist has. It makes their career about their passion for music rather than success.

- Live performances promote the artist/s too. This enables audiences to see the atmosphere the artists creates in their concerts encouraging the public to watch the artist/s live.

Page 10: Pre-Production - Brainstorms of Ideas

-Performance is often partnered with a narrative to break up the music video thus, creating the music video memorable.

Narrative: A narrative is used to tell a story by using a sequence

of images and videos related to the song; not literal, but still enables the audience to understand why it

was given that certain narrative, which links with the song.

Nowadays, music video directors are able to create a variation of storytelling created by special effects

making the video a lot more interesting or the audience and keeps them engaged in the music video as the scenes are always changing. This can also help

gain success and status of the song, artist/s and directors.

Mise-en-scene

Indie music videos are generally simple.

-Props, costumes, make up etc. are linked to the scene.• A prop can complete a scene as audiences are able to physically see what the character / artist is currently doing.

• COSTUMES & MAKE UP = create the character. It indicates their age, wealth, status, era of the music video and stability.

SOUND-Dialogue are often used in music video either in the beginning or the end to tell or conclude the story.

-It is also sometimes used to either distort, fade, increase or decrease the tempo to express one’s emotion.

-Diegetic sound is used when filming scenes, to match the lyrics with the action, but the end product the song is non-

diegetic.

and sets the character, and helps the audience understand the message behind the video

• Tilts and pans to either move along the scene or cut into another scene• Handheld shots are often used to show a memory.

EDITING-filters are often used over the top of clips or the entire video to give

a certain idea to the viewer, such as memory, age to the video or showing the clip in a positive or negative light.
