Opportunity for all• Be part of a project to grow a workforce proving to be an asset across
all healthcare sectors – GP, community, hospital, care homes, prisons,

PTPT Integrated Training Pilot
• We will benefit from learning taken from current national
HEE pilot
• A cohort of 46 PTPTs training across secondary care or
mental health, community and GP/PCNs or care homes
• Cohort started in February 2020

How Much Funding is Available?
• £32,000 per PTPT over the 2-year apprenticeship training period
• Funding can be used to support salary, educational supervision or
other elements to support the trainee to successfully complete the
apprenticeship
• The apprentice can be someone new to your team or an existing team
member to upskill (subject to them meeting course entry criteria)

Getting Involved• Form an employer partnership which must include GP/PCN & a registered
pharmacy (which can be hospital and/or community pharmacy).
• Be prepared to reciprocate placements for other PTPTs
• Provide educational & practice supervision within your partnership from a
pharmacy professional registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
(GPhC). This can be a pharmacy technician and/or pharmacist.
• Consider engaging with key pharmacy leads to support a system-wide bid for
funding
• The HEE team can support you with signposting to partners

PTPT RecruitmentAll applicants for the post must meet the following criteria:
• Qualification-bearing course: Four GCSEs at Grade A*-C/9-4 including Mathematics,
English Language, Science and one other subject
• Non-qualification bearing course: Undertake pre-screening criteria in relation to:
health and character, current ability & current level of maths, English & science
knowledge
• 16 years of age or older
• Appropriate DBS check and references as per the employing organisations HR policies

PTPT Recruitment (contd.)• Full-time contract
• Part-time considered on a case by case basis (at least 30 hrs/week to complete training
in 24 months)
• Successful bids will be expected to pay PTPTs as per NHS Agenda for Change band 4
(adjusted trainee rate) as detail in annex 21

for-pay-and-banding-of-trainees). This is to ensure standardisation across all
employers. This equates to (before any employer on-costs):
• Year 1 - £16,909 (this is 70% of band 4 spine point 17)
• Year 2 - £18,117 (this is 75% of band 4 spine point 17)

Education Provision• Apprenticeship therefore course fees are funded through the levy:
• Levy payers will get 100% course fees paid
• Non levy-payers will get 95% course fees paid, 5% = approx. £400 for the
entire 2-year programme. HEE can advise on possibility of levy transfer.
• HEE Pharmacy South will support identification of a GPhC accredited training
provider(s) for the delivery of the apprenticeship. This will be one of the providers
that has been identified as part of the national procurement process.

PlacementsTraining programme must:
• meet the requirements of the GPhC Initial Education Training Standards
• be overseen by an Educational Supervisor
• have a work-based practice/clinical supervisor associated with each rotation
• provide good experiential learning opportunities
• meet the HEE quality framework

Placement Requirements
• The PTPT will rotate through each sector at least once during each year
during the 24-month training programme
• Each rotation must be a minimum of 12 weeks (60 days) each year
• Placements can be ‘blocks’ or split weeks as agreed between the employer
partnerships

Educational Supervisor
• Partnerships must have a named registered pharmacy professional to act as
an educational supervisor
• It is expected that the PTPT will meet their educational supervisor at least
once a month to review progress and provide support of the PTPT

Practice/Clinical Supervisors• All placements must have a named registered professional to act as a
practice/clinical supervisor
• Work-based experience must be under the supervision, direction or guidance
of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician to whom they are directly accountable
for a minimum of 14 hours per week.
• Practice/clinical supervisors will support PTPTs to identify opportunities for
learning in the workplace and provide supervision of PTPTs on a day-to-day
basis, identifying PTPTs requiring additional support
