Allows us to predict whether or not a precipitate will form when two solutions are mixed. Keep in mind that when two solutions are mixed the new concentration needs to be recalculated.

Steps• Find concentrations of each solution after mixing.

• Determine what precipitate could form.

• Calculate a “trial product”

• Compare the “trial product” to the Ksp value. If the trial > Ksp, then a ppt will form If the trial < Ksp, then a ppt does not form
