Preliminary Task September 2014

Assessment 3: MAP 1

Brief: Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

Evaluation of task (comment on use of planning, use of camera, use of iMovie and working as part of a group. Include 2 areas for improvement, which you work on during the main task.)

Within this task, the planning into this was pretty rushed as we became a group in this lesson and had to decide on our favourite storyboard and we choose the one, which would be the quickest to record in under half an hour. I was able to use match on action, panning, reverse action and the 180 rule, the camera was pretty simple to use as I have past experience with other similar cameras however the tripod is quite difficult to set up and work. We had to make sure that we couldn’t see the cameraperson or camera whilst recording as the lift was pretty reflective. I enjoyed working in a group as this way you were able to share ideas and record quickly as you didn’t rely on just one person to shoot it and you could use everyone else to act in it. Using IMovie to edit was new to me but as we worked in a group I was shown what to do and how to do things, even shortcuts to use on the programme. In the next task, I hope to improve on writing a script beforehand and using more techniques when

filming with the camera, in this footage you are unable to understand the storyline in which we tried to create, so by using props this may have been able to be improved. I’d like to produce and music for these films in the future, as I am interested in sound production.
