Welcome to North Park Covenant Church online! We’re glad you’re here.

For your prayers this week: COVID-19, and all that comes with its existence in our midst: for a vaccine to be created, and for ongoing safety for our communities, especially our Black and brown neighbors, who are particularly hard hit by the virus; the Thuswaldner family, as they prepare to move to Spokane, Washington, at the end of the month; Lori Johnson’s brother-in-law Bob Malcolm, now in a rehab facility to receive therapy and professional care; Connie Barkley’s sister, Anita Bothoff, awaiting results from medical tests she underwent this past Friday; Beverly and John Hawkins, mourning the passing of John’s step-father, Bill Hawkins, on June 15; Jim and Andy Meyer’s cousin’s son, Andrew Lamb, now home again in Wheaton after a lengthy hospitalization; Sandy Edstrom’s friend Justine, mourning the unexpected passing of her husband, John; Pete and Cindy Ekstrand, missionaries in Congo, returning to the U.S. due to the arrival of COVID-19 in Gemena; John and Letha Kerl, regional missionary coordinators for Europe, moving back to Washington State to be closer to Letha’s parents, and continuing their work from there; North Park University, as the leadership and students discern the next right step in regards to the fall semester; our brown and Black brothers and sisters, who continue to face racism, ignorance, and hatred at the hands of others; our nation, as we continue to reel following the murder of George Floyd and so many others; family and friends of Bob Thornbloom, who passed away on June 3; Jim Hosek, as he undergoes chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer; Herb Hedstrom, continuing treament for metastatic prostate cancer; Wilma Cruz, continuing to battle a number of health issues; Paul and Sheryl Noren, Covenant missionaries to Congo who have been separated for more than four months due to COVID (he in Congo, she in Michigan); Kim and Joel Delp, Covenant missionaries to Ecuador, working to manage their family and their ministries during this time of quarantine; Kristen Westphal, whose mother is recovering from hip surgery, and whose father is on hospice care; Dick Lucco, continuing cancer treatment; Barb Goode’s cousin David Jeffery, on disability due to decline caused by ALS

Today begins week 26 of Heartwalking the Neighborhood: Please be in prayer for the 5400 block of north Sawyer (east side) and the 3200 block of west Catalpa.

The second half of the annual meeting of the congregation will take place on Sunday, June 28, directly after the online church service. The purpose of this meeting will be the election of officers, board members, and committee members. The ballot is included on the next page, and the meeting will be held via Zoom, using this link and meeting ID 865 8688 5446.

North Park Covenant Church will be hosting Vacation Bible School 2020 VIRTUALLY this year! We hope your kids can join us in this different way during the week of August 3-7, 2020! It will be an engaging week of crazy, goofy fun as we learn about God’s faithfulness to Noah and Moses, Ruth and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and, ultimately—in and through—Jesus! We are asking for just a $5 donation per kid (or $10 per family) to help cover the cost of a CD and craft supplies (which an adult will need to pick up in person prior to the week of VBS). Payments can be made online at www.npcovenant.org/online-giving. Please select Vacation Bible School from the “Select a Fund” drop-down menu.

Registration is required if you want the crafts/CD, etc. This is the link to register your child(ren), and more details will be available in the coming weeks.

An invitation to explore and use our outdoor Prayer Tree! Please join in prayer for our neighbor-hood, city, and nation by bringing your prayer to the Prayer Tree as we reimagine our worship rhythms in light of the pandemic. From Wednesday, July 1, through Wednesday, July 8, a tree in front of the doors to the education building on Christiana Avenue will be set aside for holding the prayers offered by our church and our neighborhood. There will be safety pins available at the tree, so please bring your prayer/s on folded paper and pin it/them to the tree. As we share prayers of lament, hope, and blessing at the prayer tree and in our daily lives, may you be inspired by this prayer of blessing:

May God bless us with a restless discomfort about easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships, so that we may seek truth boldly and love deeply from within our hearts.May God bless us with holy anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that we may tirelessly work for justice, freedom, and peace among all people.May God bless us with the gift of tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, or the loss of all that they cherish, so that we may reach out our hands to comfort them and transform their pain into joy.May God bless us with enough foolishness to believe that we really can make a difference in this world, so that we are able, with God’s grace, to do what others claim cannot be done.

Let us rejoice together in God's never-ending love, grace, mercy, and peace; that each prayer we send to Him will be answered according to God's will.

The summer issue of the Covenant Home Altar is now available. If you live in the North Park neigh-borhood and are able to pick up a copy, there will be a box of them in the foyer of Dave and Susan Dawson’s building (5243 N. Christiana). If it would be helpful to have a copy delivered to you, please let me know, and I can arrange that. (As of this printing, we have not received our copies of Hoy Con Dios, but I will let you know when they arrive.)

We welcome all people to begin or deepen their relationship with Christ through worship and study. We invite all believers to fully participate in the life and ministry of our church as members, leaders,

and lay staff. We celebrate the gifts and presence of diverse Christians among us—whether those differences be race, ethnicity, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability,

or socioeconomic status. We are blessed by our diversity and are unified in Christ.
