Friends would be swooning on how she managed to get a senior to notice her. However, if the situation was reversed, would it still be the same? It was too much in the end... I once knew a male classmate who was in a relationship with a senior 2 years older. They met each other though their CCA and after some time realised that they “clicked” and decided to pursue a relationship. However, they kept their relationship under wraps for a year before finally declaring that they were together. Why? Simply put: A fear of backlash – which they received from friends and family. However, they persevered and stayed together till they both graduated – only to part ways when he was 19 and she, 21. Turns out I am not ready ... In an example closer to home, There will always be that senior classmate that you kind of fancy. If you’re a girl, it’s more common to fall for that senior you deemed to be wiser and cooler than guys in your same grade. But what happens when you’re a guy, and you fall for that girl who is 2 years older than you? Should you pursue it? By Gishmora Adams one of my best girlfriends recently reconnected with an old friend (who was our junior in NPCC back in secondary school) through Facebook. After a few weeks, they had already started dating. But, as soon as it got serious, he bailed on her by sending an SMS saying not to contact each other anymore because he couldn’t get past the age gap. It was a break up through an sms. How immature was that? And to make matter worse, he started SMS- ing & calling to explain how stupid he was a week later. Even the celebs do it! Ashton Kutcher & Demi Moore does it and even Justin Bieber does it. Well, not really, but he did confess his love for Kim Kardashian and Barbara Walters who’s more than 30 years his senior. Examples aside, should you pursue that love? Are You Ready? Ask yourself this. Are you truly ready to be with someone older? Sure, she can help out in your algebra homework, but surely there’s more to it than algebra. Are you ready to be more mature? Can you be there for her when she is facing emotional stress from the pressures of her classmates? Are You Easily Influenced? Will you be easily intimidated by her? Is your ego willing to take a backseat? Will you fall prey to what your friends are telling you? Will you take heart to the gossip surrounding the both of you? These are just some of the questions that you have to answer before jumping into the relationship. We’re not saying jumping into a relationship with that pretty senior who also incidentally has a crush on you is wrong. All we mean is to take time to reflect and be truthful. Remember: What matters most is the sincerity that drives you, and your confidence to pursue and uphold the relationship. At the end of the day, there is nobody else in between – just you, and that special girl. And in the lyrics of Justin Bieber, There’s Gonna Be One Less Lonely Girl.

We’re not saying jumping into a relationship with that pretty senior who also incidentally has a crush on you is wrong. All we mean is to take time to refl ect and be truthful. Remember: What matters most is the sincerity that drives you, and your confi dence to pursue and uphold the relationship.
