Energy meterAn energy meteris a device that measures the amount ofelectricalenergyconsumed by aresidence, business, or an electrically powered device.Electric meters are typically calibrated in billing units, the most common one being thekilowatt hour.

What is a prepaid energy meter??

DescriptionA scheme of Electricity billing system called PREPAID ENERGY METER WITH TARIFF INDICATOR can facilitate in improved cash flow management in energy utilities and can reduces problem associated with billing consumer living in isolated area and reduces deployment of manpower for taking meter readings.Every consumer can buy a memory card (is nothing but an EEPROM IC) with a password stored inside it using a MC program

The card reader will read the stored information and delete the information from the EEPROM IC(smart card) using the MC program,so that the smart card cannot be reused by others. In our project we also have a provision to give an alarm sound to consumer before the whole amount is reduced.

Its mainly advantage of avoid wastage of power.Prepaid energy meter is more reliable and user friendly. The user not bound to pay excess amount of money.Daily, weekly monthly budgeting.Flexible payment solution. No billing errors.

DisadvantagesThe need for regular visits to remove cash. Its risk of theft of the cash in the meter. Its not sequred .Duplicate created easily (ex for ATM card).

Its applicable for homes and company. Its applicable all college lab experiment (ex small amount of energy used)And then etc.

CONCLUSION:On the consumer front, the tedious task of paying the bill and waiting anxiously for the bill is eliminated.Wastage of energy is diminished as now only the required energy will be consumed as allotted. The power grid can monitor the overall energy consumption and any tampering attempts are actually of no use and can be detected if still prevalent.
