About ABC AwardsEstablished in 1998, ABC Awards (ABC) is the result of combining more than 180 years of regional examination and assessment practices into one national Awarding Organisation. As a registered charity we are continuing the tradition of our founding organisations who were established by the sector to deliver useful and practical qualifications whilst off ering exceptional support and ABC is proud to still be “owned” by the sector and working for the sector.

ABC off ers an outstanding range of vocational qualifications which reflect the skills that employers and centres look for in learners and employees. At ABC, we recognise the importance of continuing to off er not only a wide range and breadth of qualifications, but just as significantly, excellent customer support.

An Experienced and Knowledgeable TeamOur friendly and responsive approach to customers means all our centres have access to a dedicated Qualification Administrator as well as unlimited access to a Business Development Manager who can answer any queries or conerns you might have. Our Moderators are all subject specialists and are chosen by us for their experience, knowledge and ability to support centres to deliver ABC’s qualifications successfully.

A Wide Range of QualificationsOur portfolio or more than 600 Ofqual regulated qualifications cover 14 sec-tors with qualifications to suit all ages and abilities. We have designed all ABC qualifications with the support of relevant stakeholders to make sure that they meet the needs of the current industries across the UK. This means that the qualifications are designed to give learners the skills needed to find employ-ment, progress within education or enhance their skills in their current job role. We have more than 1200 centres with many tens of thousands of certificates being issued each year.

Personal & Social Development

This qualification com-prises units developed by QCDA and Awarding Organisations to provide personal and social development within Foundation Learning. It is intended to be used alongside other voca-tional qualifications and functional skills within Foundation Learning to provide personalised learning programmes.

ABC’s Personal and Social Development qualifications include sections on working as part of a group, dealing with daily life problems, and managing money through to preparation for work.

ABC’s Personal and Social Development qualifications aim to:

recognise individual achievement•raise learners’ awareness of social expectations•develop an awareness of the skills and personal qualities required for•obtaining employmentdevelop learners’ abilities to assess their own strengths and weaknesses•and an awareness of how best to use themdevelop an awareness of health and safety in and out of the workplace•provide experience of practical skills in a range of vocational areas•improve skills in communication, working with numbers, problem solving •and planningdevelop learners’ independence and self-confidence•help learners to lead a satisfying personal life in the community•foster an awareness of our society, its structures and the role of the indi-•vidual within themprovide a basis for further training and education•

The units within this qualification are at Entry 1, 2 and 3 and cover:Developing and presenting information• Finding and exchanging information•

Using ICT systems•

ABC Awards’ Entry Level Certificate in ICT Skills for Life aims to aid the development of ICT skills, to enable the learner to operate confidently and eff ectively in their everyday life. It provides a flexible framework for learners to enable them to follow a learning programme which is appropriate to their needs. This Entry Level Certificate is designed for adults whose basic skill level in ICT is below Level 1 and who wish to improve. It is suitable for young people of 14+.

ABC Awards’ Entry Level Certificate in ICT Skills for Life aims to:enable candidates to develop their ICT skills at a level required to function in every-• day situations at work and in society at largerecognise achievement of skills with a recognised national qualification• provide progression for learners to the next level in small, manageable steps•

Adult LiteracyABC Awards’ Entry Level Certificate in Adult Literacy aims to aid the development of literacy skills, including speaking and listening, to enable the learner to operate confi-dently and eff ectively in their everyday life. It provides a flexible framework for learners to enable them to follow a learning programme which is appropriate to their needs.

ABC Awards’ Entry Level Certificate in Adult Literacy is based on the Adult LiteracyStandards. It aims to:

enable candidates to develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills at • a level required to function in everyday situations at work and in society at largerecognise achievement of skills with a recognised national qualification• provide progression for learners to the next level in small, manageable steps•

Adult NumeracyNumeracy plays a fundamental part in adult life. Eff ective numeracy skills sup-port independent living and broaden choices and opportunities available to individuals. ABC’s Entry Level Certificate in Adult Numeracy aims to aid the development of numeracy skills to enable the learner to operate confidently and eff ectively in their everyday life. It provides a flexible framework for learners to enable them to follow a learning programme which is appropriate to their needs.
