Visiting Speakers Business speakers are invited to speak to students about their job, their companies and their industries. Speakers are sources from a variety of both local and national businesses. CV Writing CV writing workshops for groups of up to 30 students. Students will be given information on how to tailor their CV to a particular job description, guidance on what to put in/what to leave out and how to structure their document. Guess My Job Business volunteers from a range of occupations spend time with groups of students who question them about their job. Students guess the visitor’s job and then learn more about the role, skills, qualities and qualifications for their career. This programme challenges stereotypes and raises aspirations All activities are available to both Pre- and Post-16 students Finally .... we’re not forgetting teaching staff too A teacher tailored opportunity to find out about Apprenticeships and the career pathways that young people can pursue as they gain valuable work experience alongside further vocational study. As one of the largest Apprenticeship providers in Coventry and Warwickshire, we are uniquely placed to develop teaching staffs’ understanding of Apprenticeships and their benefits for young people when they leave school, the jobs and qualifications which are available, how Apprenticeship are delivered by providers and employers and see Apprentices and employers in action. It’s a great opportunity to enhance careers education and guidance as well as developing ideas and useful links for your students. CWT Chamber Training is a leading provider of vocational training and development, including Apprenticeships for young people. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Coventry & Warwickshire Chambers of Commerce, we have an in depth understanding of local business and their skills needs which enables us to work in partnership with education to expertly prepare young people for a fruitful working life.

Our goal is to raise aspiration, awareness and attainment, instilling a culture of personal growth which builds confidence and self–esteem. Option 1: Preparing for Work: Practice InterviewsOur interviews prepare students with their first steps in the process of applying for work and facing an interview for the first time. Taking students out of their comfort zone, they will experience a one-to-one interview with a real employer. This programme also includes Interview technique support during tutor periods if required.

How will Practice Interviews benefit students?• Encourage students to identify the skills and qualities and consider their aspirations, goals and career planning• Provide students with an insight into the world of work• Support with their personal development • Help students to understand the recruitment and application process for employment or continued education

Students will:• Apply for a specific job• Complete an Application form• Undertake an interview with an employer• Receive constructive feedback

Cost - £10 per student – Whole year group – Pre 16Cost - £15 per student – Whole year group – Post 16

Option 2: Preparing for Work: Careers & IAG Through our extensive database of business contacts we are able to provide speakers to support curriculum and IAG requirements. Our business partners are able to offer up to date information for all types of progression routes as well as helping students to understand the skills and qualities needed for the world of work. Our business partners may also be able to accommodate workplace visits by groups of students and/or school staff.Cost will depend on numbers and length of visit

Option 3: Preparing for Work: Careers EventOur Careers event will provide students with focussed and informative workshop sessions with business representatives. They will be able to broaden their horizons and gain up to date information about future career and educational options. Students hear directly from business and have the opportunity to explore entry qualifications and career paths from a variety of sectors.

Students will:• Look at different job roles and careers• Understand entry requirements and potential progression routes• Understand the differences and similarities between different business sectors• Understand the day-to-day roles and responsibilities in the work place• Obtain up-to-date information from business• Learn about Vocational and Apprenticeship routes

Cost - £15 per student – Whole year group

Option 4: Enterprise ChallengesOur Enterprise activities help to improve students’ understanding of the relevance of their education to the world of work. They also help develop the skills needed in the workplace through a variety of team based activities with the support of the local business community.

How will Enterprise Challenges benefit students?• Increase their awareness of the skills and knowledge needed for the world of work• Improve their understanding of employers’ expectations• Enhance their enterprise capabilities

Students will:• Use their initiative• Learn to problem solve• Develop their team working skills• Enhance their time management• Develop their presentation skills• Develop their communication and listening skills• Develop their decision making skills

Cost - £10 per student – Whole year group/tutor group/class
