• This presentation is about a “Psychological experiment” carried by Wharton’s Cassie Mogilner.

• This three staged experiment was carried on different subjects.

Questions Under Consideration :

• Does giving away time makes one feel to have more of it?• Does being more charitable has some (positive) effect on one’s productivity?

Observations:

• In the first two experiments it was found that

The people who helped the sick children and did charitable work on Saturday felt “infinite” about the future times.• In the third experiment:

People who helped edit the essays of high school students, felt less scarcity of time.1/15/2013

Observations:

• On monitoring it was found that on an average these subjects devoted only 38 minutes in a week on these activities.

• Only 9 minutes extra to the people who left early.• They feel more effective, and that in turn enhances their productivity

Observations:

• The amount of time spent does not makes a difference about how the subjects feel about the future.• Procrastination was reduced, giving a feeling to the individuals that they can do more with their day and time.

Explanation:

• The feel of self efficacy is the main reason for the increased productivity and feeling of time maximization.• Thinking about the present moment instead of the future can make you feel less hurried or rushed.

• Slowing down of the perceived passage of time, also makes one feel of having substantial and productive amount of time.• Thinking about time makes people happier and giving time away makes them feel more effective
