A quick look at the world of cloning…
Meet Dolly…

… she’s a sheep.
… She’s also a clone.A clone is an individual with exactly the same genetic makeup as another individual.
Dolly was cloned using a method called “somatic
cell nuclear transfer”.
How is this done…?

Take a cell from a donor sheep…

… and an egg from a surrogate.
Exchange the DNA…

The genetic material from the surrogate egg is removed and replaced by the
material from the donor cell.

Sparks fly!
A jolt of electricity stimulates the egg into dividing, and so an embryo begins to grow.

The new lamb has the same genetic makeup as the sheep that the first cell was taken from.
Dolly’s not alone…Other animals have been cloned too. Tadpoles,
mice, goats, pigs, cows
and cats are among the
list of animals cloned
around the world.
