The change of state that occurs when a spaghetti noodle is boiled is both artistic and interesting. At first, the noodle is hard and brittle, but once boiled it becomes soft and takes on more of an organic form. This transition is the inspiration behind the interior design at Flusso. The overall design within the space incorporates linear elements which resemble a pre-boiled noodle as well as organic elements which are reminiscent of a boiled noodle. The overall design of the space pays tribute to the name of the restaurant, Flusso, which means “Flow” in Italian. Aspects of the spaghetti noodle such as its creamy colour and differentiating shape will be the main inspiration within the space. Pieces like decorative parametric col-umns, curved booths, and an organically shaped bar will provide visual interest within the space. These ele-ments will be contrasted with pops of bright red found in accent pieces like lighting and furniture and will be com-plemented by a unique perspective on traditional Italian building materials.

Client Problem Statement
While undergoing the preliminary planning and development of this restaurant the clients have raised a few concerns. The restaurant is centrally located in the heart of the Little Italy District of Toronto. The limited footprint and restricted building layout of Flusso conflicts with the client’s request for a large menu. Larger menus require kitchens of greater scale to prepare and cook the items featured on the menu. Designing for a larger kitchen will impact how much space is ded-icated to the dining area which could limit seating arrangements and the overall seating capacity of the restaurant.
One of the last major concerns for this project deals with material selection. The clients are looking for low maintenance materials that are durable and will stand the test of time. The issue at hand is selecting materals that meet the clients need for longevity, but also correlates to the con-cept within the space and pays tribute to authen-tic Italian design. All of the materials used in Flus-so’s design will have to be functional and durable and will have to adhere to the client’s stadards and the restaurant’s design language.
