Suitability of Airport Placement near Monterey California
A regional airport can be a major staple in any area. It can provide access to commuter, cargo and personal aircraft, allowing for an easier connection to a major airport.
Overview
The placement of an airport is a major undertaking with many factors influencing this decision. The amount of land needed for a regional airport can range from .75 to 1.5 square miles! Today we will look at land suitability from only a few of these factors.
Monterey, CA is located on the coast of California between San Francisco and Los Angeles. It is home to many wonderful attractions, including Pebble Beach Golf course, the Presidio of Monterey, and a regional airport that was constructed in the 1930s. Does the location of Monterey’s current Regional airport meet the needs and criteria of the city today?

Results- Suitability of Actual AirportThe current location of Monterey Regional Airport does NOT meet the criteria standards outlined, due to its proximityto high intensity residential and commercial areas. In fact…..
The city has grown so much since the airport’s construction that it now encompasses the airport!
