Introduction

• In this case study we have concentrated more

towards the level of interaction betweenpeople of different racial backgrounds.

• The significance of this topic being it is one ofthe most major problems found everywhere inthe world.

• Students complaining how their grades geteffected because of insufficient interactionbetween them and their lecturers.



Statement of Problem

•

i. English barrierThis is where we rectified the issue of

students not willing to interact with their

fellow students as most of them aren’tcomfortable speaking English.

• ii. Cultural Barriers

Our case study came to a conclusion thatlocal students didn’t find the need to mix

around and same goes for foreign students

due to different cultural backgrounds.



Objective

• To investigate/identify the interaction level between

multicultural students and lecturers.

• The main purpose of this case study is to find outwhere exactly the problem lies so that we could

eradicate it and make a change.

• To find the best suggestion from the foreign students

to improve the interaction level in UNIKL MIAT.



Scope and Limitation

• Respondents- the international students of UniKLMiat.

•

Our scope of this research was only limited to MIATitself and not any other UniKL campuses or

universities.

• This research had limitations up to only 20 students

because the budget and time was limited.

Interaction

1. Interactions occur when these objects and eventsmutually influence one another.

2. Its purpose is to respond to the learner in a wayintended to change their behavior toward andeducational goal. We determined that interactionshave two purposes:

determined the understanding of student Change learners by motivation

Guide them toward achieving their goals.



Types of interaction :

An article INTERACTION by Leah A. Sutton Arizona

State University on Spring, 1999 mentioned that

interaction can be categorized into:1. Learners-content

2. Learner-instructor

3. Learner-learner

4. Learner-interface



1. Learners-content

Basic types of interaction.

The change we call learning takes place when the learnerinteracts with the content.

Content can be in the form a text, radio, television and etc.

Sometimes a learner only interacts with the content of a

course



2. Learner-instructor

The instructor need to be an expert who plans the instruction

to stimulate student's interests and motivate students. interaction can vary from the instructor making a presentation

of information to multiple students

students who interacted regularly with their instructor were

more motivated and had better learning experiences.



3. Learner-learner

Not been a large part of education.

With the development of distance education technology, thistype of interaction has become possible



4. Learner-interface

The interaction that takes place between the learner and the

technology Uses of the technology to interact with the content, the

instructor, and the other students

Its very important to improve others interaction



METHODOLOGY

• The instrument used was QUESTIONNAIRE.

• The sample is the foreign student of UniKL

MIAT

Data analysis

•

Based on pie charts.



Objectives of Research Questions

I. What are the interaction factors that can

affect students’ performance?

II. What are the best ways to improve

interaction among the foreign students?

Finding & Analysis

English language has been touted as the main

language in UniKL MIAT and aviation industries

as the language is widely spoken across the

globe. Below are the figures showing the resultgathered from 25 respondents who had

answered all 10 questions from the

questionnaire.

Conclusion

• Out of our research we conclude that:

-50% foreign student population was good at English.

-Most of them barely feel comfortable in using

English as a language.

-Majority of the students preferred tutorials withlecturers but the barrier of understanding English

used by most lecturers prevented them from it.



-Surprisingly, this was not a major issue in terms ofresults.

-We also conclude that most foreign students did notfail any subjects so far.

-Those who have failed subjects have complainedEnglish language being a barrier in theirunderstanding.

-Finally, we figure out that more than 80% foreignstudents think communication barrier affects astudents performance.



• The method used for coming into an

understanding with other foreign studentswas affective.

•

This barrier between the locals and foreignstudents as well as lecturers should be broken

for the better.

• Most of the foreign students that have an

interaction problem suggests that an intensive

class should be provided to improve the
