Plan for three independent failure domains.

– Different kinds of failure domains protect against different types of faults.

Generally a failure domain will represent a physical location, but depends on what type of failure you are trying to protect against

– Could all be in one building on different floors/rooms or just different power domains in same data center

– Could be multiple buildings on the same campus– Could be multiple buildings up to 300KM apart

Key is the quorum disk– If only have two physical sites and quorum disk to

be in one of them then some failure scenarios won’t allow cluster to survive automatically

HyperSwap – What is a Failure Domain?

Was ist ein Flash System?

„FlashSystem“ Disk System

Flash Storage ≠ SSD Storage !

Antwortzeiten vs. Lieferzeiten!

Viele Flash Systeme auf dem Markt sind teilweise oder komplett auf SSD umgerüstete Disk Speichersysteme

– Storwize– XIV

– DS8000– DS3/4/5– N series

Online, near instant snapshot backups with minimal performance impact

High performance, near instant restore capability

Integrated with IBM Storage Hardware Simplified deployment Database Cloning

Snapshot backup to TSM server – Transfer outboard of application server

to minimize impact to application – Copies on TSM server provide long-

term retention and disaster recovery Support for multiple, persistent snapshots

– Persistent snapshots retained locally– Very fast restore from the snapshot Policy-based management of local,

persistent snapshots– Retention policies may be different for

local snapshots and copies on TSM server

– Automatic reuse of local snapshot storage as older snapshot versions

LTFS Value Proposition Self-Describing cartridge

Remove requirement to commit long term to tape software application Content protection in event of database corruption or loss

Improve content interchange/distribution Eliminate need for common tape software across enterprise and/or interchange locations Reduce cost of data interchange vs pro-video

$/GB, Power Reduce cost of digital storage – power and $

Open Standards Large diverse infrastructure requires open standard Standard/support of MXF video

Long Term Content Archive Life Archive life desire for 50-100 years
