History of batik

Batik term comes from the word Java. According to its history of batik originated from the days of our fathers, known since the eighteenth century, written and painted on palm leaves. At that time batik motif or patern is still dominated by the shape of animals and plants. But in its development history of batik have evolved, from painting motifs of animals and plants gradually turn to an abstract motif that resembles a cloud, temple reliefs, wayang beber and so forth. Until the year 2009, exactly on October 2, 2009 the United Nations Institute for Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has established batik as a cultural heritage of Indonesia

How to Make Batik

1. The first step is to make batik designs commonly called molani.2. After completing molani, the second step is to paint with (wax)

night using canting (caged / dicantangi) to follow the pattern.3. The next stage, covered with wax parts will remain white (no

color).4. The next stage, the first coloring on parts not covered by the wax

with a cloth dipped in a particular color.5. Once dyed, the cloth in drying and dried.6. Once dry, re-doing the batik process is painting with wax using a

canting to cover the part that will be retained on coloring the first.
