• Reason for conflict: Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait 2 August 1990
• Elements of the 82nd ABN Division deploy to SA early as part of Operation Desert Shield
• US Forces arrive in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 20 August and beyond to build combat power
• RSOI (Reception, Staging, Onward Mvmt, Integration) began 25 AUG 1990 for 24th Infantry Division units
• Ground Forces Train/rehearse, Battle Plan, and sustain August 1990 through start of Ground War 24 Feb 1991 (100 hours).
• Air war began 16 January 1991
• My Job: - Rank of 2nd Lieutenant / 23 years old / 11 months in service - Unit: C Co. 3/69 Armor Battalion 24th Infantry Division - Position: Tank Platoon Leader / 4 x M1A1 Tanks and 15 Soldiers - Arrival in Saudi Arabia: 25 AUG 1990 - 2 x Tank Battles with one fratricide in Jalibah Airfield
• Reason for conflict: 9/11 Attacks on US Soil
• US Military Elements arrived in Afghanistan and counties to the north (October 2001) to establish logistic hubs
• Initial main logistic hubs were Bagram AF, Karshi Khanabad Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan (Manas)
• My Job: - Rank of Major/ 35 years old / 13 years in service - Unit: Joint Logistics Command / 1st Corps Support Command – Fort Bragg, NC - Position: Deputy Chief Logistic Operations - Arrival in Uzbekistan: 20 October 2002 - Job Responsibility: Managed a staff of 12 officers and Sergeants. Tracked, monitored, and reported logistic posture. Conducted military decision making process, coordinated with subordinate and external logistic enablers (DoS / Air Force), and developed management tools to manage a plethora of distribution actions.
• Reason for conflict: IAW President GWB, WMB
• US Military Elements arrived 2002 to begin planning offensive operations in 2003.
• Initial logistics were austere and immature; built-up and established over time
• My Job: - Rank of Major/ 37 years old / 15 years in service - Unit: 1st Corps Support Command Fort Bragg, NC - Position: Distribution Management Team Chief - Arrival in Balad Iraq: 30 October 2004 - Job Responsibility: Managed a staff of 8 Sergeants. Planned and managed the distribution of 3 types of fuels to 3 customer sites ranging 100 miles in radius. Provided expertise and support to a large military warehouse consisting of 3000 line items of supplies. Coordinated with US Air Force and US Army fixed-wing elements for air transport of commodities.
• Reason for conflict: Tribal disagreement (Tuareg)
• AFISMA and French Special Forces initial response to crisis 2012/13
• Initial logistics were austere and immature; built-up and established over time
• My Job: - Rank of LTC/ 47 years old / 25 years in service - Unit: I Corps G4 / Tasked to UN - Position: Chief, Joint Logistics Operations Center & U4 Chief - Arrival in Mali: 2 February 2014 - Job Responsibility: Managed a staff of 55 civilians and military personnel from over 10 nations. Provided logistic sustainment for over 12,500 UN Peacekeepers conducting operations across Mali.
