2769 schools and 3112 kindergartens enrolled to "Reading Schools and Reading Kindergartens programs

85%-92% parents (% depending on age of childen) knows the Foundation’s reading campaign

54% parents declare regular reading to their children

200 educational conferences, workshops and seminars conducted by the Foundation

130 jails were equipped with children books to read to children by imprisoned parents

78000 mothers of newborns will obtain the First Book of My Baby in 2013

„First Book of My Baby” project

• First Book of My Baby – project of free distribution among all mothers of newborns in public and private obstetric hospitals/clinics throughout the country of the educational-cultural package consisting of a book with information for parents and poems to be read to newborns along with a DVD with educational film and lullabies. The project will be accompanied with research on its effect on child’s development.

• Number of births: around 400 000 yearly.

• The aim of the project: First Book of My Baby gives parents knowledge and tools to support childs language, mental and emotional development and a passion to read. It is extremely important because current decerease of children’s language and thinking skills as well as dramatic drop in their reading abilities will limit their chances for development and education.

• European Union and international community of reading-oriented institutions put early language education as their current priority!

Astrid Lindgren Memorial Literary Competition for a Contemporary Book for Children and Adolescents

• Announced every three years; till the moment three competitions have been organized (the third edition will conclude in October’13 with publication and promotion of eight awarded books in three age cathegories).

• Very prestigeous in the community of authors, publishers, book specialists – high awards, the pledge of publishing all awarded books, high literary level.

• The best authors of books for children participated e.g. Marcin Szczygielski, Anna Onichimowska, Paweł Beręsewicz, Barbara Kosmowska, Renata Piątkowska; interesting debuts e.g. Ida Pierelotkin.

„Generations – Creations” and „We Need Each Other”

• Integration of children from orphanages and seniors from the Third Age Universities during common cultural and artistic activities: joint visits to the theatre performances, movies, concerts and exhibitions, then participation in common music and drama workshops as well as cooking and computer classes, with the final gala – common show/performance in front of local audience in which all participants of the project play their roles.
