Verb comes From the word of “verbum”
A verb is a word that expresses an action or a state of being.
Example: He ran to a store.
Types of Verbs
• There are 3 types of verbs:
Action
State
Being
Action verb
Example:
• Ali turned the page.
• Fatima is reading
• Man Jumped.
An action verb is a verb that expresses (“Whata person or thing does”) activity of subject.
State verb
A state verb is a verb that expresses (“What a person or thing is”) the state of subject.
Example:
The baby sleeps.
Fatima is a teacher.
The cat is dead.
Being verb
A being verb is a verb that expresses “What is done to a person or thing “)
Example
Ali is scolded.
Fatima is caring.
Glass is broken.
To find the verb:
Locate the subject
Then ask yourself, “What is it doing?”
The boy kicked the football.
“What did the boy do?”
The verb is kicked, it’s what the boy is doing.
Verb consist more then one word:
In sentence a verb consist more then one word
Example
Ali will play the piano.
(Will = Helping verb, Play = Action verb)
Boy will kick the football.
(Will = Helping verb, kick = Action verb)
Transitive Verbs(Passing over)
A transitive verbs is a verb that denotes an action which passes over from the doer or subjective to an object.
Example
The horse kicked the boy.
I feel a severe pain in my head.
Intransitive Verbs(Not passing over)
An intransitive verbs is a verb that denotes an action which does not pass over to an object .
Example
The book fell.
How do you feel?
The train stop suddenly.
Difference between transitive & intransitive

Direct object A direct object is a noun or pronoun that receives the action of a verb or shows the result of the action. It answers the question "What?" or "Whom?" after an action verb.
Example

Indirect object
Indirect object denotes the person to whom something is given or for whom something is done.
Example
My a story.
His a watch.

Reflexively verb
• Some time the verb used is said to be reflexively , this is because when subject and the sane person it is used as reflexively
• A verb is reflexive when the subject and the object are the same. Since the subject and object are the same, the verb is reflexive. Since the subject and object are different, the verb is not reflexive.
Example
The man hurts himself.
