Introduction
On 7th October 2010, a professional talk was being held in Al-Ghazali Hall,FSKM from 4 – 6 pm.
The speakers are the people from Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB), Malaysia consist of :
Encik Abdul Hadi B Abdul Wahab from the human resource department
Encik Zakwan B Ahmad Nawawi and Encik Mohd Juzaili B Abdul Rashid from the business technology department
The audiences are consist from 26 students from Degree of Business Computing part three and 40 Computer Science Diploma students from UiTM Jengka.
Objective
To expose the students of the business computing about the uses of computer and information technology in every aspects of work in business.
People from Petronas Dagangan Berhad shared with us on how computer and information technology being used by PDB.
Company Background
PDB was corporate in 1982. The headquarter is located in Petronas
Twin Tower,KL. PDB a subsidiary of PETRONAS by
69.9%. It was listed on Bursa Malaysia
Securities Berhad on 8 March 1994.
Core Business
PDB’s core business is selling the motor gasoline, aviation fuel, kerosene, diesel, fuel oil, bunker fuel, lubricants, LPG and asphalt
But they also engages in several other business.

PROCUREMENT RESOURCES PDB gets resources from PETRONAS They also got the groceries from
suppliers. PDB made a deal with multiple
partners such as CIMB Bank, Maybank, IBM, Perintis and Maxis.

IT is widely used in PDB’s business growth.
The department which handles the IT management is business technology department.

History of Technology in PDB Retail
Credit Card Acceptance Process
The ISO 8583 compliant messages are securely transmitted via satellite link to a switching system which routes them to the appropriate acquirers
Fleet Card System
SmartPay transaction messages are securely transmitted via satellite link to a swtiching system which routes them to the CardPro CMS.
Cash System
Cash is accepted at the Point of Sales (POS). The transaction records are transmitted via
satellite link to the Centralized Information System (CIS).
Message Turnaround Time
Petronas Dagangan Berhad has the system that the total message turnaround time from card reading to response is 5 seconds for pre-authorization
Fast Receipt Printing
Petronas Dagangan Berhad also provide fast receipt printing which complete 8 seconds from the moment customer replace the nozzle
OTA, NFC and RFID
PDB provides contact-less payment facilities that are more convience and faster.

Redundant Backup Systems, Business Continuity Programs
PDB has High-Availability and Disaster Recovery site implementation to ensure optimum service uptime as back up
Success Story
PDB invested so much into technology and automation which result 12 million annually, 25% percentage of cards sales,RM250 million card Sales per month and 3.5 million number of approved transactions per month.
They had operated 939 service stations, 606 Mesra Store nationwide.
PDB had over 800 million in profits while having largest network of petrol and diesel retail in Malaysia.
Lesson Learned
We as Malaysian should support Malaysia brand.
In business we need to have high target and vision to success.
Having the knowledge in marketing and sales is important so that company can attract more customers.
A good leadership and management will lead to the successful of the business company.
