Design Review and Construction Supervision: 2011 / ongoing
The Cambambe Hydropower Development is located in the Kwanza River, approximately 180 km southwest from the city of Luanda and about 15 km from the city of Dondo. It was initially designed and built for a phased construction.
Phase II of the project is currently ongoing and includes the construction of the Cambambe 2 Power Plant. The Phase II works are divided into two lots: civil construction works (power plant 2) and electrical and mechanical equipment.
Power plant 2 will have an installed capacity of 700 MW. It includes the following main components:
- a new water intake, water conveyance tunnel;- a power plant, the respective units, transformers, substation and ancillary systems:
access tunnel and control building;-A feeder canal and discharge tunnel located downstream.
The works provided by COBA within the scope of this project are as follows:- Project management;- Review of studies, design and tender documents pertaining to the civil construction works and to the electrical and mechanical equipment, as well as the review of the model test results;
- Approval of the design of the civil construction works and of the electrical and mechanical equipment;
- Construction supervision;- Start-up and initial operation; - Assistance during the warranty period.

ANGOLAN NATIONAL WATER PLAN
Client/Owner: Ministério de Energia e Águas (MINEA) Instituto Nacional dos Recursos Hídricos (INARH)
Date: 2012 / onging
The Angolan National Water Plan (ANWP) evaluates the current
situation, and diagnosis the major problems and potentialities on a
short, mid and long term basis.
Besides the physical, economic and social characterization of the
water sector, the ANWP is especially focused on:
- Characterization of water resources (surface and groundwater),
concerning quantity and quality;
- Identification and quantification of water uses (urban water supply,
industry, irrigation, hydropower, environment, etc.);
- Execution of the water balance of water availabilities vs. water
demands;
- Identification and characterization, in space and time, of the principal
problems, namely floods, droughts, pollution, etc., as well as current
and potential conflicts that may arise pertaining to water use;
- Definition of a short-term physical and financial programme.

WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION MASTER PLANS FOR 8 MAJOR CITIESHUAMBO, N’DALATANDO, KUITO, ONDJIVA, MALANJE, DUNDO, SAURIMO and MENONGUE
The studies envisaged the execution of water supply and sanitation master plans
for the cities of Huambo, N’Dalatando, Kuito, Ondjiva and Malanje and associated
engineering preliminary designs. These cities have an estimated population
between 100 000 and 600 000 inhabitants, and usually disposed ancient and
rudimentary water supply and sanitation networks.
• i) Preparation of master plans for water supply and sanitation, including short
and long term analysis.
• ii) Evaluation of the sanitary and socio-economic impact of the proposed
schemes, expected benefits and communitarian participation;
• iii) Execution of preliminary engineering studies associated to priority
rehabilitation / expansion works, and preparation of ToR for construction and
detailed design;
• iv) Identification of alternative technologies in light of the available technical,
financial and human resources (operation and maintenance).
