Text, Typography, and Style Guidelines

• Body text and bullets should be flush left beginning at this top point on the slide

• Bullets should use sentence style capitalization with no periods at the end of each entry. If there is more than one sentence per bullet, the last sentence does not have a period

• Tabular information and labels on charts and diagrams are generally initial-word-capped

• Spell out “and” unless the ampersand is part of a proper name

• “Cont’d” is the standard abbreviation for “continued” and should be placed in parentheses

• Always insert a space before an ellipse (…)

• Use em-dashes (—) and hyphens (-) appropriately– En-dashes (–) should not be substituted for em-dashes

• Correct punctuation errors before finalizing

• Do not double space after periods — use a single space

• Maintain consistency in number treatments, abbreviations, acronyms, etc.

When needed, client logos or government seals are set in the lower left corner, flush left.

Client logos should be sized to look equal in size/weight to the CSC logo. Place the logo

being used on the Slide Master when you want it to appear on all slides.

• PowerPoint tab formatting capabilities are limited; unlike Word, individual lines of text cannot be uniquely formatted. Columns of information should be set in individual text boxes to facilitate the cutting and pasting of data from Excel and Word documents

• Do not double space after periods

• For extra keyboard characters use the Insert/Symbol command under menu items to access the correct character

• Use K to denote thousands, M for millions, and B for billions

Incorporating Graphics into Your Presentation

• Inserting photos or graphics into slides can add to the overall impact of your message

• Some images are available at the CSC online photo library, accessible through http://styleguide.csc.com/photolibrary/

• All images must be professional and pertinent. No cartoons, stick-figure drawings, or clip art may be used

• When importing images, set files in an RGB or indexed color palette at 120 ppi (pixels or dots per inch) and save them in either .gif or .jpg file format– Note that 72 ppi is acceptable if you are planning to display the image only on

screen and not print it
